I like your question. It makes me think of the good ole days of golf. There was nothing like the sound of a drive with a real wooden driver.
Today it sounds like someone banging a trash can! Sometimes it even hurts my ears. The real answer is there's no comparison.
Take if from the pros, they play the game for a living and are there to win. If wood was better, they'd all be using it. I'd bet a real wood driver wouldn't last 3 rounds with as hard as some of the pros swing.
The latest technology has made it easier to get better results. That doesn't mean you need to buy the latest and greatest every year. You simply won't see that much difference in your game on a yearly basis.
But the changes over 4 to 6 years are probably enough to consider making a change. With that said, I'd never encourage a beginner to go out and spend $2000 for a complete set of the latest and greatest. There are many ways to go about getting started.
You can buy specific starter sets that may only include the odd number irons. This isn't a bad idea because most beginners won't notice a difference between consecutively numbered iron shots. When you get to the point where you do, you know you're ready to make a better investment.
Used clubs are also a good option. The good thing with used clubs is that when you're out playing from the sticks and rocks because you hit a bad drive, you won't care as much when you have to hit from a surface that is going to scar your clubs. The best advice I can give about making a purchase when you're past the beginner's stage, find a profession to custom fit the set to you.It will make a world of difference.
Check around, there are lots of places that will do this free during a demo day event.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
