Are there any religious, historical, or mythological celebrations associated with the occurrence of a blue moon?

The Blue Moon is also known as the Goal Moon. This happens when the moons 28 day cycle happens in the same calendar month. It is during this time that you set long term goals you want to achieve.(First Link) Each season usually has three full moons.

However, there are sometimes four full moons in a season. When this happens, the third full moon is the “Blue Moon. €?

This preserves the named moon cycle, and is a rare occurrence. Due to an error in a 1943 issue of Sky & Telescope Magazine, the term blue moon has been associated with a second occurrence of a full moon within one month. However, true blue moons are much more rare than that, happening about once every two and a half years on average.(second link) Wiccans and many other Pagans celebrate the esbats, which are the full moons.

The new moons are also celebrated by many groups, and some very dedicated groups also celebrate the first and last quarter. Traditionally, the Sabbats are times of celebration, while magical work is done at the esbats. "There are thirteen canonical full moons each year, although some years will have only twelve, because a lunar month is more than twenty-eight days long (actually about 29 1/2 days).

A "blue moon" is popularly defined as the second full moon in a calendar month, although some define it as the second full moon while the sun is in one sign of the Zodiac." (third link).

Nope. But it's not too late to start one. There seem to be a number of different meanings attributed to the term Blue Moon, and the best and easiest to calculate only became popular in the late 20th century.

That is the definition that a Blue Moon is the second full moon in a month. There hasn't been time for religious, historical, or mythological celebrations. You could suggest it to the Pastafarians though, they might like to come up with one.

Another meaning, which may or may not be true, is that when a year has 13 full moons, the one which doesn't fit the naming pattern is a Blue Moon. If this is near the beginning of the Catholic Easter it could have a special meaning; but, it is not really part of the holiday. The extra full moon could also be interpreted by season, in other words a fourth full moon in one season. No myths etc with that.

The other meanings do not lend themselves to holidays at all. The next Blue Moon of the modern sort is coming up on December 9, 2009. Plenty of time to think up something.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
