Every experience in your life shapes who you are, the choices you make to what you choose to remember, to what happens to you and how you interpret it. So video games can affect you, although they are also good for you, because they give you different experiences so that you are better equipped for life. The way that I understand it, is that video games are fun, if you choose decent games then you'll learn little things about the world, but if you immerse yourself to the point where you judge it to be more important than reality then you should stop.
So, your mom is looking for an excuse/reason for your actions. Just let it go, video games are not important enough to trouble your mom over. Take some time to get some good habits (What I did was clean one thing up every time I go into a room, you can also clean the dishes after dinner which is super effective because your mom will notice a change in your actions).
I wish you well, be nice to your mom, she loves you and wants you to develop good habits instead of keeping bad ones.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
