No. My wife's healthcare costs have topped $20,000 a year for the last three years in a row. Since her health issues also resulted in her selling her business, we also lost that income.

I'm sorry, I know health problems can truly wipe one out. Are you in the States? Can you not get of setting costs from other agencies, Seems like millions can!

No because salaries are stagnant and the cost of living is rising - food costs are through the roof for example. We are pretty much minimalists but due to crazy hot hot hot weather and unrelenting draught conditions we haven't been able to grow a successful vegetable garden for about three years. Since we eat organically, that means purchasing vegetables and they have gone up exponentially.

We avoid "debt" at any cost but with the loss of 401k's due to stock stock market instability in response to the global financial crash brought on by Wall St. , we have put off some important maintenance projects like a new roof and siding which can't be avoided much longer. Air conditioners in our neighborhood all went belly up about two years ago. We stopped using our central air and bought small window air conditioners to avoid the cost of replacing such an expensive luxury and found it has saved a great deal on energy costs but it's tough in an environment that is typically near or over 100 degrees all summer until it literally get's cold.

We do not use central heating. Instead we use a gas fired fireplace and fans to distribute the warm air throughout the house and watch T under a pile of blankets.

We are very much like you, we had over 100 100degree plus days this summer burned almost everything up, however we covered the food patch and kept that part watered and really saved on veggies. We did buy anew cost efficient refrigerator for the garage so we could buy on sale and stock up . We dropped the stocks and all but matching retirement and went for safety deposit boxes instead, at least those loss statements have quit coming.

Hang on, all the pundits say it will get better. I bet it won't. Usmc 4 mins ago .

If anything positive can be said about this recession, it is the fact that for many it's been a sobering wake-up call when it comes to personal spending. Nowadays, people are thinking twice -- and in some cases -- three times before they purchase anything. I know I have.

Yes, although it sounds the opposite! Eight years ago, I thought things were pretty hunky-dory. I was married, living in a beautiful home with my husband and two children.

I thought everything was coming up roses. Little did I know, my husband was planning to ask me for a divorce. He was involved with a co-worker intimately and he had decided he wanted out of our marriage.

I guess you would say, the wife is always the last to know. I had pretty much known that this woman was in love with my husband...woman's intuition. I never thought it would evolve into an actual relationship though.

Six months later my husband took me totally by surprise and asked for a divorce siting some really lame reasons. Two weeks after that I fell and broke my humerous in two places. We told the kids about a week or two after that and they were devastated.

I had suggested marriage counseling but my husband completely refused to do that. He had made up his mind he was moving on. Six months after that, a week before Christmas, he admitted that he had been seeing this woman for two years.

Meanwhile, he had moved out to his own place, the girls and I moved to a condo and I had to orchestrate the entire move/moves with my broken arm. We had 5 moves total: one to his place, one to my place, furniture of mine to an auction house, furniture & misc. To a charity and some of my things to my parents house.

I did some therapy on my broken arm but between packing boxes, etc. , apparently that was excellent therapy because my arm ended up in great shape! Lol so, for the past 7 1/2 years, I have raised my children on my own with little to no help from my ex which hasn't exactly been a piece of cake. We've moved from our condo into an apt.

When I was married, things were pretty good money-wise and, as I said, we had a nice home and a comfortable life. I got a great deal of support monetarily from my ex when we first split up but then he quit his job, was jobless for a year and then got a job that paid considerably less.So while he still pays support, it's not much help. BUT...I am better off than 8 years ago for having my two girls!

I have my own income that keeps increasing and I have the marriage behind me. Oh! Now I know how to do a budget, too, which I didn't know how to do when I was married and I know how to handle my finances a lot better than I ever did 8 years ago!

Better off I'd say yes. As I look back 8 years ago. My life was going on a downward spiral heading to nowhere.

I was boozing and getting myself into lots of trouble. Anyways, when I found God, and surrendered my life, I am seeing life in a new prespective. I don't worry as much, I am more serving of my fellow mankind.

I've seen such a change, but everday is a different challenge. Even my friends have changed. I don't hang with the old people I use too.

Anyways over all, I realize controling my life my way, seems it was right that time but it just led me to many wrong turns and wrong descisions, no regrets though. Beside if I didn't make the wrong choices, aside from the right ones I feel that I wouldn't be where I am right now. Thanks for your time..

Yes it is hard to understand where you are aiming at but I guess you mean either personal are financial (in accordance with the topics you chose. Seeing as eight years ago I was fourteen, i'd say, yes.

No, my spouse was still working then and we hadn't yet started paying college tuitions.

Yes. When I look back to the dawn of this new century, I thought it would be the perfect time to get up and do something. I am glad that I've been given the chance to grow some more before I did anything foolish.
