Bath tub gin. Flappers and the start of a ten year stock market run. Probably a time traveler's vacation spot.
Just do not get sick or need an operation. Yes. A lot better off.
Define "better. " Define "society. " 90 years ago, people were still worried that New York and other cities would buried under mounds of horse sh!t.
We can complain about the automobile all we want (and we do! We Do! ) but the automobile enabled us to dodge the death-by-dysentery bullet.
We now have the technology to make this planet a near-paradise. We will not because we will not stop fighting and killing each other. 92 years ago, we finished "The War To End All Wars." 73 years ago, the next iteration started in China, spread to Europe, dragged us in out of loneliness, and "ended" even more wars than the first one.
65 years ago we showed that we didn't even need soldiers anymore if we wanted to end life on the planet. My point is that we have more ability now than 80 years ago to BE better off, but we very much will refuse to use our ability for that.
The short answer: "Yes, but probably not for long..."More people are living longer, healthier lives. More infants are surviving to adulthood. And more species are becoming extinct at an increasing rate.
Our garage is piling up in the middle of the ocean, and we distract ourselves with small screens. HUMAN society might be better off, in terms of health and standard of living. However, we think we OWN the planet, and if we don't stop treating it as disposable, we may not survive.
A quick side-trip to Wikipedia shows that there were approx. 2 billion humans on this planet in 1920. In 2000, approx 6 billion.
That's a three-fold increase in one life-span! How CAN we continue like this? Really, I am optimistic about humans on an individual level, but not about humanity as a whole.
What is good for the individual, multiplied by the billions, is often not good for the planet. I hope this answer is perceived as relevant. Org/wiki/World_population.
OOPS! Substitute "garbage" for "garage" ...durn spell-check! .
Definitely. Just look at the advances in life expectancies, or medical science, never mind dentistry. Besides, people alive in 1920 still had such great periods of human history to look forward to as the Great Depressions or WW2.
If a person has love and health....needs met....any time in history would be ok.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
