I would not and did not post anything about any religion. I have been accused in the past of being apathetic and for the most part I have outgrown my apathy but not here. I have been struggling to find a real importance in me participating in this expression of free speech and for the life of me I cannot find the hook of importance here.
I despise censorship but cannot see that posting anything here but my favorite Glenn Beck video would be appropriate. I am 99.99% sure Glenn Beck secretly feeds spiders to lost and runaway children and we need to let the world know that his personal life is filled with the relentless violent torture of innocent creatures like dolphins, gray squirrels, rabbits, manatees, baby seals, wayward jellyfish, baby birds, every species of cat (kittens too), little Pug dogs and their owners, chickens, iguanas, tortoises, Tuna fish (both canned and alive), Bald Eagles, and all of the puppies and big mall pet stores. We all need to start expressing freely through speech our abhorrence and disgust with the horrors against humanity and innocence Glenn Beck is involved with.
Glenn Beck's entire life is spent in sadistically torturous contempt of us and we should be rising against him by using daily our right to free speech.
No, but I posted a favorable comment on the site. I got several likes, plus a really ignorant, rude, misspelled and hostile message from someone with an Islamic name and picture. I strongly feel that every civilized person should stand up against the Islamic form of censorship; which is the censorship of any form of criticism.
Military secrets, ok, they can be censored. But censoring criticism, no way! Especially criticism of religion, which in general deserves all the criticism it gets.
Logic doesn't apply to religions such as Islam; but, just as an aside: Islam prohibits pictures of Mohamed supposedly to prevent idol worship. But, how can insulting or otherwise negative images of him promote idol worship? They do exactly the opposite!
I might add that I have been wearing a Danish flag pin as a sign of solidarity with the Danish cartoonists almost every day since the original incident. Down with censorship of ideas!
I’m neither a Christian or a Muslim. I would advise against depicting prophets (or God) of other religions in an insulting picture. This is of basic respect.
Someone can criticize or discuss about the followers’ wrong acts but shouldn't be on their prophets. This kind of confrontation is pointless. I’m not an expert in religon but Christianity has a history of iconoclasm.
Making icon of prophets/God for praying/praise is forbidden, even more so of insulting in images/icons. As one of the Ten Commandments: gospel.com/bookmarks/Graven-image-Christ... “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. €?
Icon controversy in early Church: http://www.saintbarbara.org/faith/history/iconcontroversy.cfm It doesn’t happen only on very very early Christian Church, it happened even on 14th-15th century. http://www.holycross.edu/departments/visarts/projects/kempe/devotion/iconoclasm.html This is the ironic part: http://holydormition.blogspot.com/2007/12/islam-and-iconoclasm.html Excerpt: “St. John Damascus was immune to the persecutions of the iconoclasts because he lived under Muslim rule. That’s right, here is a Christian saint protected… from Christians… by Muslims.
€? It seems that the Muslims are more tolerant on icons at that time compared to Christian iconoclasts of the same period, so much so that the Christian iconophiles (those that support depiction in icons) seek refuge under Muslims. More history of iconoclasm (including Christian iconoclasm) on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iconoclasm So, if you are a Christian or similar faiths and about to depict Muslim Prophets in an insulting picture/icon, think: 1.
Ten Commandments prohibits image even for praise/praying, what's more for insult.2. Your Christian Church has a history of iconoclasm. Many icons of historical values are destroyed in such a way.3.
Your Saints who are iconophiles may have seek refuge in Muslims for prosecution from Christian iconoclasts. I would think Islam and Christian are religions formed by descendents of half brothers of the same family.
Being a Muslim, I can say what the problem actually is. For us, Muhammed is the one whom we love most in the world. We believe that he is the last messenger of god and he had conveyed the message from god to the humanity.
But, he never claimed himself to be a god. In fact, he closed all the doors that would allow people to think that he is god. During his life time, he had strictly ordered us not to create any images or arts depicting him.
We have taken his words so seriously not only because we are intended to follow his every word, but also because it may challenge our core concept of God. Story has given several examples of human being being depicted as god. One example is Buddha.
He never claimed to be a god. He only taught certain principles. But his followers started worshiping him.
There are several other human beings who are being worshiped as god. I suspect that most of them would have taught certain principles to the fellow people by some time in the history. But their followers eventually started worshiping them.
We don't wish such things to happen to Muhammed also. Moreover, the problem here is a different one. People are posting some imaginary drawings or cartoons and call it as Muhammed.
How do they know that is Muhammed. The only reason for them to post such images are to insult Muhammed as well as the Muslims. We cannot tolerate any insult to our Muhammed because we love him very much like no one else in the world.
Please learn to respect others' feelings. It will avoid many problems in the world.
I would never post a picture of mohammed! I might get bombed!
No, Because as a Heinzist minister I have respect for our cultural, and spiritual differences and Taboos. Although, I agree on religion and culture should never have the right to force their rules on another religion and culture... And I agree to everyones right to free speech, and free images... But, I feel people need to also remain as aware as they can to what they do and can do that can trigger extreme violant backlash.. However, in the end.. Everyone will be offended by something, and their will always be critics and people who will be offend and not like something, said, done, or posted.. So next time you are offended by something you watch and see.. I feel that you need to try to look in their eyes to see wear they are coming from.. Consider the source.. Like the Family Guy.. I never liked that cartoon and I find many things about it offending... But, I am not protesting against the freedom to air it, and against people who do not find it offensive to watch it. .. Just as many did with one of my favorite people who offend me on and off to watch did years ago with MSNBC's Imus in the morning.
If we were to take away freedom of speech and press and remove everything that offends or hurts someones feelings.. there would be nothing left... Do we want to live in a world like that? .. I sure don't.. I rather be offended, and tolerance once in awhile.. Then live in a padded room, not being offended at all.
No, I really don't feel like being rude to an entire religion when my target is the zealots. I will still use strong free speech when discussing or describing terrorists and their supporters.
Muhammed was according to Muslim writings a Pedophile in his actions. However it is sad that so many people should be brain washed into the lies told to them by their elders handing down in fables and works of fiction that were after all man made. There is no god or god's, no supreme being, just us here and now.So stop fighting, arguing about untruths and learn to live with each other and everything on the planet Earth.
Regards.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
