People need to be able to exercise freedom of speech and expression. Plenty of people have drawn satirical cartoons involving Jesus and God (and even the Buddha and Hindu gods), and though some people are offended, as you'd expect, they don't commit murder over it. If Muslims want to live in this world, they are going to have to put up with the fact that not everyone agrees with their faith or takes it seriously.
Islam has not undergone the enlightenment that other faiths have. It eventually will, and there's an argument that it is undergoing that enlightenment now, with all of the reactionary pain and anger a major transition can involve. I certainly understand and sympathize with the argument that we should all take care not to offend any religion, both out of respect for its adherents and to protect ourselves, but I feel that protecting freedom of speech and expression is infinitely more important.
Stephane Charbonnier knew he was taking risks, knew he was endangering his life. He thought certain principles of freedom were worth that risk.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
