Are you worried about becoming immune to antibiotics or do you use them sparingly?

The probability of becoming immune to antibiotics is a reality. For people who are on antibiotics long term, doctors will try to prescribe a different antibiotic than the one used previously for this very reason. If you are ever at the doctor for an illness and he or she wants to prescribe an antibiotic, be sure and tell them if you have taken any antibiotics within the past 6 months.

If the same prescription is used again, the likelihood that it will be effective is minimal. However, you can still become immune to all antibiotic courses of treatment if you are frequently prescribed antibiotics for any type of health concern. One of the problems that I had in the past was frequent respiratory infections and bronchitis.

Previous doctors always prescribed me antibiotics for this. Only recently did a doctor tell me that antibiotics are actually not very effective for these kinds of illnesses, and it is best to let the illness run tis course unless the condition worsens or there is a need for more immediate treatment. One of the things that scares me the most are bacterial mutations that have developed as the result of overuse of antibiotics.

One of the most notable of these mutations is MRSA. Superbugs like MRSA are often more dangerous and harder to treat than previous strains of staphylococcal bacteria and others. Anymore, you will find posters in doctors' offices and health care facilities advising against relying on antibiotics too much.

I myself found that if I took an antibiotic for a respiratory infection, the infection itself would return within a couple of months and be worse than the first time that I had. I have come to rely on antibiotics a lot less and I shy away from using antibiotics for colds. Since I have done this, I have been sick a lot less and my own immune system is able to ward off most things on its own.

I have been sick off and on nearly my entire life. There are times when I couldn't have lived without the help of antibiotics. I have an autoimmune disease which makes me more likely get have problems. As a child I took a great deal of antibiotics.

As an adult I don't get sick as often, however when I pick up an infection, I have a hard time shaking it. One bladder infection required 3 different types of antibiotics and a round with eye infections had me using every oral, inject able and drop antibiotics known to mankind, except for those I am allergic too. I do not take them unless I have to.

I try to fight things off naturally at all cost and try to prevent infections. My son is 6 and has only taken antibiotics twice. *knocks on wood* Both times were for ear infections that had him crying and screaming.

I do not take him to the doctors|doctor of a sniffle and his doctor is against giving medications unless necessary and so I am. We use home remedies and a cool mist humidifier. It usually works. These are great for people who need them, but antibiotics, along with several other drugs are overused.

I try to avoid them unless it is really needed.

As a person who is lucky enough to not have frequent health problems I really don't worry about these things personally. I will use them when they can help me but I have taken two bottles in my entire life, so its not a worry. This idea is scary to me though, I would suggest you stick with home remedies as long as they are working.

Use antibiotics as your secret weapon when all else fails to make sure it still works and no tolerance is built.

Wash your hands with soap and water before you eat and after you use the bathroom. Regular hand washing will help keep you healthy and reduce the need for antibiotics. Ask your doctor if you have all the vaccinations you need to protect yourself from illness.
