Liberal and conservative are not parties. They are descriptive words of someone's general political beliefs. The first political parties in the USA started before the constituiton was ratified.
They were called the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. The Federalists believed that the wealthy and educated should run the country and they were trying to get all 13 colonies to ratify the constitution. The Anti-Federalists were kind of like today's liberals, only they strongly opposed big government.
They were against ratifying the constitution because they felt it took power away from the states and put too much power into the hands of the central government. The only reason the Anti-Federalists agreed to the constitution was because the Federalists added the Bill of Rights, giving the people and the states the power they have. Soon after came the Jefferson Republicans which should not be confused with today's Republicans.
They were actually more like today's Democrats. They formed in opposition to the Federalists. Then came the National Republican party, which was the conservative right wing party and the Democratic party which was the liberal party who opposed big government.
Then the Whig party was another conservative one that started in 1836. Parties continued to form and break apart. Today we have the Republicans, who are strongly religious and conservative, the Democrats, who are liberal and generally believe in 'to each his own' and liberal freedoms, 3rd parties are: the green party which fights for environmental causes, the free enterprise party which is for giving the money to the workers, the Libertarian party which believes in no government at all basically, the tea party which is a group of elderly extremists who believe in forcing government to adopt all their extremely conservative ideas.
There are other third parties as well but those are the most talked about.
There is no liberal or conservative party. I remember when both parties had liberal, conservative and moderate members. It wasn't that long ago.
A major shift took place when the Civil rights act was passed. Republicans adopted the "southern strategy" to woo the conservative democrats into the Republican party using race as an issue. That is why the red states are in the south.
They got the racists.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
