No, I avoid people that I get a bad first impression of, so there's no chance for me to change my mind. I don’t have enough time for interacting as much as I would wish with the people that I do like, so I have no time to spare for giving people second chances. Them’s the difficult facts of being a limited human being.In ordinary, face-to-face interpersonal situations that will arise again, I need to be open, to avoid unpleasantness, and sometimes that openness serendipitously changes my view of a person; but, here on Askville, there are so many nice people that i’m already snowed under with them.

I have 21 friends on Askville... If I bothered to poll them on their politics and religion, I'm sure I would have some disagreements with them. But I have come to know them because of various questions and we have shared a laugh or a tear and that is what makes being here so rewarding. I use my father-in-law as an example.

He is a great guy, to me. But if you knew his true feelings, you would know he is something of a bigot, lionizes Dubya (go figure) and hates anything about the Democrats (thinks Bill is scum and But...he's my father-in-law. I'm not going to change his beliefs (believe me when I say I have tried) and even though I have cornered him during some embarrassing political discussions, he still won't budge.

I love him and he'd do anything for me, even though his politics are pretty misguided, in my opinion. Kind of like some folks here. No one is going to be changed here that doesn't want to be.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
