I'm more interested in hearing examples of what it was that changed, how it's been put into practice, and maybe even a link to the question that did something for you (if you can dig it up) rather than just a plain old yes-or-no answer. YES...several times...here is one example About 7 months ago, I read what was just another "innocent" question. I decided to answer it. And, I have changed my behavior significantly as a result of it.
askville.amazon.com/dangers-ingesting-me... Prior to reading the question, I considered eating fish a healthy proposition. My favorite fish by far was grouper. I tried to steer clear of butter-based sauces and some oils used to cook fish.
But, I considered pretty much all fish healthy. Then, I did the necessary research to answer the above question and I was shocked...really shocked. I had heard of the neurological risks to consuming mercury in fish.
But, I assumed mercury content was infinitesmal and pretty much the same across all fish...WRONG! Answering the question made it very clear that quite a few types of fish were extremely high in mercury content; and, others were fine. I think it has to do with the proclivity of the fish species to be a predator.
The more aggressive fish that eat lots of other fish accumulate mercury and present risks to humans consuming them. You can read my answer in the link above for details and for links to reputable sources. But here are a couple findings.
If Haddock (which I am not particularly fond of) is considered safe and arbitrarily indexed at 1.0, then Tilapia (0.3) and Salmon (0.5), both of which I love, have less mercury risk. But, fresh Tuna has 12.4 times the quantity of mercury in the Haddock! And, my favorite fish, Grouper, has 15.0 times the mercury in Haddock!
We won't even consider Swordfish which is 31.5 times that of Haddock or Gulf Tilefish which has 46.8 times the mercury content of Haddock! Before this Askville Q&A, I had never hesitated to eat Tuna, Grouper, Swordfish, or Tilefish. I have now (sadly) removed them from my family's diet.
Canned tuna is a little better, depending upon whether you eat light (3.8) or albacore (11.4) tuna. I have eliminated tunafish salad, which I love, from my diet. So, YES, I have made a significant change to my family's diet, based on reading a cleverly asked question (and answering it).

1 For me, I can't say that my mind has done a 180 degree turn on something.....but I have certainly had my knowledge and understanding of the opposing viewpoint enhanced. One of the things that I enjoy on Askville is the calm, respectful exchange of opposing ideas. Sometimes a bit of a challenge, I guess....(the calm, repectful part.....)So maybe not 180 degrees.....but 30 - 50 degree turns, on occasion :) .

I used to think that the world was made up largely of normal people with a small percentage being classed as "abnormal. " After reading the Bone-Ass Questions and some of the postings by certain trolls on here, I'm firmly convinced that the "abnormal" rate is about 1/3 of the population that uses a computer regularly.
3 Yes, I have changed my mind on some issues. I think I have learned to be more diplomatic and less abrasive. Many people have beliefs based on their experiences, emotional turmoil and life's issues.
I think I have become aware of the support some beliefs give to those who are hurt, sad, depressed and suffering. If they are right or wrong doesn't really matter.

4 OH, I wonder if people you would classify as "normal" in person attain a kind of boneassedness once they have the anonymity of a computer between them and other people. Sometimes the cloak of secrecy can be worn like a KKK robe, it seems.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
