Assisted suicide: is this the same as mercy killing? Should it be legalised?

timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists... the light of recent discussion about so-called mercy killing it is important to be clear about what the policy does not cover. It does not cover murder or manslaughter. Assisted suicide involves assisting the victim to take his or her own life. Someone who takes the life of another undertakes a very different act and may well be liable to a charge of murder or manslaughter.

That distinction is an important one that we all need to understand. Ultimately, as many people recognised, each case is unique; each case has to be considered on its own facts and merits; and prosecutors have to make professional judgements about difficult and sensitive issues. The assisted suicide policy will help them in that task.

Well Spike, Your guy sounds reasonable. He does not appear to be some bible thumper wanting to adjust laws to meet the misconceptions of the true believer. We had a famous such individual, a physician here in the US.

He assisted several people in constant excruciating pain and was brought to trial by the simple people of Michigan obviously driven by religious prejudice against anyone who disagreed with them. They subjected him to several trials and finally found 12 people simple enough to cook him for his humanity towards those who suffer. Still is, Jack Kevorkian, MD He helped some people exercise their ultimate right and politicians to gather with stupid people honored his good intentions with sanctimonious punishment.

Michigan longed for the stake at which to burn smart, brave people. Ignorance won out in Michigan. Sources: rednecksputter, fill-oss-a-fur, inadequate education, read some, been places..

Conventional medicine may say we did all we can do...there is no hope....Alternative medicine can heal and gives hope...it works...No one should take their life because they only tried Conventional medicine and got no answers from them.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
