Being one of the door knockers, it is not easy. You never know if you are going to get rude people, sincere people, or apathetic people. When you do reach a door and you get someone that is not interested but nice, it still makes our day.
When we get someone that needs comfort and we share scriptures with them and we know we had made a difference in someone's day, keeps us going to the next door. Not one Jehovah's Witness in my 16 years has ever ever left the neighborhoods crying. Not one has said "Forget this!
Let's go". We all pile into our cars laughing and smiling. We share good and bad experiences.
It is amazing. We still can experience the joy of knowing that we just completed a day of doing Jehovah's assignment. We are guided and filled with his holy spirit so there is no way we are ever going to have a bad day out in service.
So whatever attitude we get, just know we will not stop doing the preaching work until Jehovah tells us that our work is done. Acts 28:31 "31 preaching the kingdom of God to them and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with the greatest freeness of speech, without hindrance.
Yes, I have had them knock on my door, as well as other door-to-door sales people. Like you said, they usually make small talk, then go in for the kill w/questions that almost force some sort of answer from you. I used to just let them say whatever, then say, "I'm really not interested", but that never works...they keep talking.
So now, I usually don't even open the door, but if I get caught off guard, I only stick my head out and say right off, " I'm not interested (in buying anything from door to door sales) and not comfortable talking to you about my personal opinion/viewpoints, so I'm going to close the door now. Have a nice day" and I close my door.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
