The second law of thermodynamics is that the universe is running out of energy. If it was eternal it would have run out of energy long ago. Any respected scientist understands this.
That is why when atheistic scientists are asked this question they usually respond with "I don't know" because they know better than to say it always existed. Everything in this universe is running down. Eternally existing things that are constantly running down and always have been is an oxymoron.
Albert Einstein who was not a christian but believed in a god. He created Einsteins theory of general relativity. Which proves that space, matter and time came into existence together.
Once there was no space, time or matter. And before that happened there was nothing. This theory has been proven accurate to 5 decimal points.
The following is taken from gty.org Herbert Spencer, a non-Christian scientist, hailed as one worthy of many prizes in science, died in 1903. His greatest achievement, Herbert Spencer, was that he discovered the categories of the knowable. That is to say he determined that everything that exists fits into one of five categories.
This was hailed as a massive, massive cataloging of realities. Spencer said, “Everything fits into one of these categories, time, force, action, space, matter,” and was hailed by the scientific community. Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning,” that’s time, “God,” that’s force, “created,” that’s action, “the heavens,” that’s space, “the earth,” that’s matter.
Everything that Herbert Spencer discovered in 1903, or before that, was in the first verse of Scripture. The Bible says that God created everything, and in saying that, the Bible gives us all the categories that exist. And He did this out of and from nothing, that is with no preexisting material, and He did it in six days.
... I made a video about this. It's frank Turek ( a brilliant christian Apologist) speaking on the issue.) I encourage all atheist to check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epKrtqdzI... The reason why people believe in atheism has nothing to do with intellectual superiority.
It has everything to do with suppressing the obvious truth in unrighteousness. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. (Romans 1:18-23 ESV).
The energy that makes up our universe has always existed in some form. It was not created. There was never nothing.
By the way, the space-time framework of *our* universe started with the Big Bang but that doesn't mean there aren't other time frames. Time is a side effect of motion. If our universe was spawned by a random vacuum fluctuation in another universe, they I'd say that other universe was before ours.
And that universe might have started with a random vacuum fluctuation in a still earlier universe.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
