Authors/Published authors out there, how does one go about writing a book (I pretty much know that part) but what about getting an editor, publisher...etc? I have had more than a few people suggest that I write a book or two about my life and things I have seen and done. My composition professor suggested I consider writing a book as she simply could not wait until my next paper was due because she thoroughly enjoyed my stories. So, one more person has made this suggestion ...so....I shall start taking notes. I just don't know what to do after I get things written down.

I would greatly appreciate all the help anyone can give me. This info will also help me get my cookbook I have been working on out of my notebook and into stores. Asked by JEMS_Mom 40 months ago Similar questions: Authors Published authors writing book pretty part Arts > Writing.

How to Self-Publish Your Own Book You may want to consider publishing your own book. In this you're able to maintain ownership of your copyright and make a great deal more per book sold than if you were to sign with a traditional book publisher. Below are a few resources that may be of benefit to you.

Com jawar's Recommendations How to Self Publish for Profit: Resources for Authors, Writers, Book Publishers Amazon List Price: $19.95 Used from: $38.88 .

1 Two ways: 1. Pitch the proposal for the book to a publisher at which time if they're interested, they'll ask to see either the whole manuscript or a sample chapter. If they're interested in publishing it after seeing it, they'll assign you an editor and you'll work with that person who will offer suggestions etc.As the book progresses.2.

Get yourself an agent and let them do the pitching to publishers for you. And, of course, you're going to pay that agent a percentage. You NEVER want to send an unsolicited manuscript to a publisher.

If you do, it will go into the well-known circular file and you'll never see it again. If you pitch the idea yourself, you should write a good letter that shows why they should want to publish the book and why its different than anything else that has ever been published. And keep the letter short and to the point - don't ramble.

OR, you can always go to a vanity press and pay for the publishing yourself and give copies away to people since books published by vanity presses never see the inside of a bookstore. They're basically an ego trip for the person who wrote it.

JEMS_Mom replied to post #1: 3 Thanks OH..but I don't want to do the ego trip thing. The crap I have written is about my true adventures and some are so off the wall it seems made up. I have a couple of things my daughter and I have done for kids books.

She has "written" them and I edited for her. She is only 6 and wrote a story for a "bare book" that was so sweet, it even made her teacher cry. That I am totally considering getting published for her.

For my book...it would probably turn out something like a traveling pants kind of thing but with a twisted story line.

4 I didn't take it as a head trip ego thing---laurie notaro one of my favorite authors was running around for 7 years trying to get her book, "The Idiot Girl's Action Adventure club" published. I'm glad that she finally did because it's hysterical and now she has 6 or 7 books and I have them all. Real life is generally funnier then fiction, if it is filtered through someone's eyes who has an outlook like yours.

Your freakish hysterical to me. I mean, you make me LOL, fall of my chair laughing sometimes. I better wear a diaper when I read your book.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
