Before Mount Everest was discovered and measured what was believed to be the highest mountain in the world?

Mount McKinley A: A: Mt Everest was measured in 1856 by Indian Surveyors as 29,002 ft (8,848 m) high. In 1897 Mt McKinley was estimated to be over "20,000 feet (6,100 m) high. " It is actually 20,320 feet (6,194 m) high The people of Nepal could well have believed Mount Everest to be the highest in the world for thousands of years Imp: A team consisting of some surveyors(land)lead by Mr. Andrew wah(?) was working around the malayas to measure different peaks.

One day an Indian Surveyor named RADHA NATH SIKDAR was calculating the measured chits done by himself..Gradually the highest peak was coming out . He was totally perplexed and ran to enter the tent of Andrew Wah. All the team members came out and rejoiced.

Very soon the discovery of highest peak was confirmed. During that time George Everest was the Survey and Settlement General of British India.
