Great question as usual too. I recently read a biography on the late great Stanley Ketchel who not only was a great fighter and Hall of Famer but also live quite an interesting life and a rugged life which ended much too soon. If I was doing a list of the toughest fighters in the history of boxing, Ketchel would certainly be on that list as he not only had that great punching power, but unbelievable endurance and the ability to absorb great punishment too.
He was very durable and strong and is widely considered one of the all time great middleweight Champions with a record of 52-4-4 and 49 KO's! He destroyed Philadelphia Jack O'Brien twice, won 3 out of 4 with Hall of Famer Billy Papke, and was impressive in a 6 round fight with the great Sam Langford who outweighed Stanley by 19 lbs, yet Ketchel took the fight to Sam. His style has been called primitive because of his aggressiveness but I believe he was better than many really know.
Bennie Briscoe is what I would call one of the toughest of the tough Philly fighters back in day and a very dangerous ring opponent. He is well known for being a great contender with tremendous punching power and a great chin only being knocked out once in his career. He did quite well against great Champions like Carlos Monzon and Marvin Hagler and you can bet that Bad Bennie always came to fight!
So all that being said, this is how I see this fight going: The fight Ketchel and Briscoe meet in ring center after touching gloves as the 1st bell rings and immediately start throwing the leather. Neither man is backing up as they try to impose their will on the other. Briscoe would land some punishing shots but Ketchel is more than ready for this kind of fight as he hgives back just as good as he gets with the fans at ringside going crazy!
The pace of this fight is incredible as Ketchel is starting to land the harder shots though Briscoe is right there with him gettin his in as well. In round 11 Ketchel nails Briscoe with his famous shift and Bad Bennie staggers into the ropes trying to clear his head with the maniacal Ketchel pouring it on now. In round 12 Briscoe has regained his composure as the two men resume combat.
Most of the rounds are like this to the fans delight. The decision is close. Winner by UD15 Stanley Ketchel.
As tough as briscoe was, he was no match for ketchel. Stan by ud.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
