America's gun laws are a joke, as recent events demonstrate. Unfortunately, the gun lobby is so powerful that nothing will be done about it.
Well it would certainly reduce the senseless massacres that happen from time to time. On the other hand if the law can't protect us from criminals, then perhaps widespread ownership would give people pause before trying to commit a crime. There was the news story recently in Chicago about some serial killer who met an untimely demise because one of his intended victims was armed.
In addition if more armed security had accompanied the Congresswoman in Arizona, then this tragedy might have been averted or mitigated. Unfortunately it appears that such security might be necessary not only for Presidents but for other politicians as well. Political assassinations should uniformly result in the death penalty or lifelong imprisonment without any hope of parole.
People who are mentally unstable should be more carefully vetted before being given a firearm. The problem comes from detecting these people before they act. It is questionable to me whether there is a good way to do this.
Leave the second amendment alone.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
