Bloody Sunday - after 38 years, some honesty. Here's a URL: report.bloody-sunday-inquiry.org/volume0... The Saville Enquiry into the killing of 13 unarmed civilians in Derry 38 years ago has exonerated all the civilians and has some excoriating things to say about the behaviour of the soldiers and their officers. I thought I'd post a link to the overall summary (taken from the BBC website) because I know how strong the bonds are.

I read that and was thinking two things: This is good, and their publicizing it is good. But 38 years later?! What have they been doing?

Waiting for the principals to retire from the military with full pension? I wonder how many of those involved are even still alive. But at least the government of the United Kingdom as finally admitted what everyone else already knew: "Yeah, we hate you Irish.

Sorry. It's not right, but we really hate you." .

3 The full report is extensive, and refrains from drawing direct conclusions. It now gets dumped in the laps of prosecutors, who will decide whom to prosecute for it. But thanks, EL, for pointing out the key section, which includes this:Our overall conclusion is that there was a serious and widespread loss of fire discipline among the soldiers of Support Company.

The firing by soldiers of 1 PARA on Bloody Sunday caused the deaths of 13 people and injury to a similar number, none of whom was posing a threat of causing death or serious injury. That is at stark odds with the Widgery Tribunal, and there's going to be hell to pay for it.

5 Opinion in Northern Ireland seems to be split between 'OK, we've got closure,' and 'string 'em up by the balls. ' Prosecution isn't going to be straightforward, because everyone testifying to the Saville enquiry was given immunity (for the things they described themselves as doing) but some could be had up for perjury and there's always the possibility of a civil suit. BTW, Private Eye (the satirical magazine) turned 'Widgery' into a noun meaning 'squiggling and squirming and generally avoiding the truth.' Maybe we'll find out what really happened to David Kelly next ...

I have worked for the same employer for 25 years and never worked a sunday they are now saying I have to can they dothis.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
