See whitehouse.gov/Deepwater-BP-Oil-Spill for a chronological reporting of responses to, first, the initial explosion (four helicopters, two Coast Guard Cutters, and one rescue plan team, plus Deputy Secretary of the Interior David Hayes were displatched IMMEDIATELY after the 10:30 p.m. Explosion on April 20th, with more help to follow the next day, April 21swt). You have asked a rather good question.
I'm very pro-President Obama, but I too wondered why BP CEO Tony Hayward had not contacted the White House and/or vice versa. Why wasn't Hayward SUMMONED to the White House? Of course, he is a foreigner, so perhaps there is some sort of contractual protocol involved, but still I remain curious.
I'm in favor of having this "fourth wealthiest corporation in the world" placed into receivership as suggested by former Labor Secretary Robert Reisch to prevent them from hiding assets in their many subsidiaries or affiliates in order to avoid financial responsibilities, which would then override this arrogant CEO's powers within BP. And as much as I truly love this president, I think he owes us an explanation about why no phone call or physical confrontation with Tony Hayward has occurred due to the severity of the ongoing spill.
Because Obama hasn't a clue what to do! When the going gets rough, he goes into hibernation! He thinks if he says nothing, it will go away by itself!
Obama didn't want to talk to the Governor of Arizona either, When he finally decided to talk to her, his excuse was he couldn't fit her into his schedule - otherwise engaged at that time! Is his social calender SO booked up, and with what!? Giving Paul McCartney a dinner and dance?
Making friends with the President of Mexico> and bashing his own countrymen? I am sorry, but this guy is out of his depth! He doesn't know how to handle a disaster of any kind, and by the looks of it, neither do his advisers!
I am sure other countries who HAVE offered to help us with this spill, but it looks like the Government has turned them down. And NOT talking to Tony Hayward, what's he afraid of,? The two of them should have got together on Day One, and worked out a stategy to quell the spread of the oil.
Tony can't do it by himself! It doesn't matter WHOSE fault it was, they should worry about THAT AFTER that well has been capped! One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out!
All we hear from Obama, is BP is going to pay for the damage! OK! OK!
We know that! So put the damn money aside for a while, and get on with the job! Let's have some cooperation from our Government!
The Government isn't hurting from this disaster, the PEOPLE and WILD LIFE are! Let's think about them FIRST, and then the Government can scream and point fingers all it wants to after the clean up! Tony Hayward can't make Obama act.
All he can do is do his best without the cooperation of the Government!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
