This is an exciting match, and I hope I will be able to see it live. I am even torn who to support... I have Dutch family, Robin Van Persie is "my man" (being as I am an Arsenal fan), and many of the Dutch players are familiar from Premiership appearances. But of course, Brazil are Brazil, and you gotta love them.
:) Now to the actual question.... do Holland have a chance? Of course they have a chance! The only question is just how big of a chance.
First some generic points... In football, nothing is ever certain. Doubly so in a knock-out competition. We already saw some great upsets in this World Cup, and there are always upsets.
Now to the specific countries. Brazil are looking good, and it hard to see any area of weakness. If anything there are signs that the likes of Kaka might be about to really come alive.
Unlike some past Brazil teams this one looks strong at the back too, with very good keeper, defenders, holding mid-fielders. However Holland have several things that could work for them... They have several players that are capable of scoring wonder goals that no defense can stop, however good or however organized. Any team in the world, either club level or national level, fears what RVP, Robben and Sneijder can do out of nowhere.
Also the Dutch will face a lot of pressure, but they could be well suited for playing counter-attacking football. If they can hold out long enough, maybe Brazil have to start to take more chances, and they can be caught on the break. You can imagine maybe a scenario like this.... Brazil control the game, and pile on lots of pressure.
Then on one of only a few breaks, Robben scores a sensational goal. Then back to Brazil control and constant attacks, but as the game gets well into the second half, still no Brazil goal and they must start taking chances. Holland score another goal on the break.
Intense Brazil pressure, they have many chances, but in the end score only one goal. Final result: Brazil 1 - 2 Holland. I could see something like that happening if the Dutch could manage to score first.
I think Brazil are strong favorites, but the Dutch do have a reasonable chance.
This will be a stern test for the Brizillians although I am not routing for them to win this WC they should beat Netherlands. The Netherlands two main play makers are Rafael Van der Vaart,Robben,Kyut and Sneijder. Brazil should be able to deal with these play makers effectively.
How you may ask? Brazil is known for their tight controlling midfield football once they can maintain that and defend well the game should tilt to thier favor. Brazillians would look to mark Rooben fairly tightly, prevent any out side shots and also try to disrupt his runs on the right wing.
Similar approach can be done on Sneijder whom also have explosive long range shots and can deliver a killer pass to a striker. But what Brazil cannot allow is free kicks outside the penalty area or they can be punish by both Sneijder or Robben. Van der Vaart also have the qualities.
Can the Netherlands defense handle the Brazillian attack they will try to but I doubt it. The Brazil displayed a true typical Brazillian game yesterday when they played Chile and the question must be asked. Can they deliver more?
If Kaka can find his form it will surely aid his team and help them progress, Robinho is yet to really stamp his authority on the game also and as far as we can see it is more of a team effort for Brazil than egos. It will be hard for the Nehterlands to contain and control the midfield Brazil are masters when it comes to that type of football. More so the match will be determin on how the teams approach each other on the field will the Netherlands run at Brazil and allow a free passing game which I feel will be to their disadvantage or will they play a patient defensive game and try to hit Brazil on the attack?
For me their best chances are free kicks especially ones outside the penalty box and Sneijder would be ideal to capitalise on this. Brazil will be hard to contain if their approach to the game is an all out attack on the Dutch their fluid style will be ballful for any team and even if they approach the game at a slow pace building plays to score they are still dangerous. More so history is on Brazil side in the 1998 WC Brazil knocked out Netherlands to reach the final.
Will history repeat it self again?
Brazil have been growing in strength with every game, and given how strong they were to start with that must be causing worries for all the other teams left in the tournament, including their next opponents the Netherlands, who they face in the quarter final on Friday 2 July 2010 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Chile have already shown this year they are a good side, but Brazil brushed them aside in the Round of 16. Even while the score remained goalless, the Chileans never really looked a threat and when Brazil hit two in three minutes just before half time, the game was all but over.
Juan scored the first of those followed by Luis Fabiano, and on the hour mark Robinho added a third to put to rest any lingering doubts that Chile could rescue something from the game. Gone from the Brazil side was the nervousness that characterised the 2-1 win over North Korea in the opening game and back was the skill and passion seen in the 3-1 win over Côte d’Ivoire. The dull goalless draw with Portugal had been put behind them.
The Dutch were in total control of their Round of 16 match from the eighteenth minute when Arjen Robben slotted the ball home. They frustrated the Slovakians for most of the match until just after the hour mark when Marik Hamsik and Robert Vittek both missed good chances for Slovakia. The game was put beyond doubt though with just over five minutes to go thanks to a goal from Wesley Sneijder.
Slovakia did pull one back from the penalty spot, but as it was the last kick of the match it mattered not at all. The Netherlands were the first team to qualify for the Round of 16 when they won their first two matches. Adding a third win gave them a 100 per cent record and made the Dutch team one to watch for the rest of the tournament.
Netherlands beat Denmark 2-0 and Japan 1-0 before the final group game against Cameroon, a bit of an anticlimax as Netherlands were already through and Cameroon already out. It ended 2-1 to the Dutch. Football betting tips: The bookmakers put Brazil favourites with most odds flirting around the evens point with 11/10 the best available for a win in ninety minutes.
For the Netherlands, 5/2 and 3/1 are both on offer but 16/5 is there for those who shop around. The most common odds for a draw are 11/5 though at least two bookies have 23/10 available. See also Argentina v Germany Preview, Paraguay v Spain Preview and Ghana v Uruguay preview.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
