Don't worry so much about this. One C+/C isn't going to ruin your chances of making it to a good college. Besides, Admission's Committees look at more than just your grades or Cumulative GPA.
They also look at the type and/or rigor of your classes, your SAT/ACT scores, Extra Curricular Involvements, Letters of Recommendation, and Personal Essay. So far it looks like you've done pretty well in school. If you continue to improve from here on out, that will also help you and will kind of make that C/C+ look like the one time silly occurrence that is right now.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
