Can a small dog hold his/her potty needs, specially urinating, as long as big dogs?

I have a min. Schnauzer that is excellent with his potty habits, has always been. We recently added a Yorkie to our family and he is peeing all over the place, he is getting better but still has accidents (he is 6 months old).

Gee, I wouldn't concern ........ yourself about it too much when a puppy is only 6-months old. Different breeds do different things. For instance, I breed and raised in my home years ago, 39 AKC registered Lhasa Apos's.

Puppies in this particular breed are puppies for 3 years, unlike most other dogs. These puppy's tinkled when they had to. They were in a fenced off room in the house, but I was till able to watch them scamper - play, fight, eat /drink and tinkle whenever they wanted to.

However, when there is more than one dog on the floor at the same time, dogs are more likly to continually 'mark' their territory more often. The tinkle problem should disappear by the second year. This is just a guess, but it could be submissive urination. Since the Schnauzer is larger and older, has been there longer and is more established in the household, your little Yorkie may be intimidated. Even if he doesn't show it, he may feel that the Schnauzer is the Alpha dog, and therefore be reacting by showing submissive behavior.

If you do feel that it is submissive urination, do not scold him! He is trying to please you in his own way, and scolding will only result in more urination to try harder to please you. When you come home and he gets excited to see you, does he urinate?

That is a sign of submissive urination. Do not make a fuss when you come home or when you leave. Just calmly leave so he will not think it is a big deal.

Try to make things less stressful for him. Make him feel important! Give him lots of attention in a calm way.

Treat him with positive reinforcement! The most important thing to remember is not to scold or punish him, as he feels he is doing this to make you happy! Take him places with you, even if it is just for a ride in the car.

Take him to the park and work on socialization. Doggie Daycare, training classes, visiting friends that are willing to try to help develop his confidence are all beneficial. My favorite thing to do with one of my dogs is agility classes, which really helped her become more socialized, and she had more fun there than anywhere else!

It is a wonderful bonding experience for you and your dog. I think when your dog develops self confidence, feels more comfortable, and less like "the new kid on the block", things will take a turn for the better. Of course this may not be the cause at all, but it sounds like a good possibility.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
