Unfortunately, Cornell does not offer scholarships through your athletic achievements. Most Ivy League colleges in the US do not generally offer any athletic scholarships because they are generally academically-oriented and intend to focus on academic excellence rather than athletic excellence. In addition, because most students who enroll excel in both counts, they do not have to give out athletic scholarships.
You can still apply for financial aid to attend Cornell. These are given on a blind needs basis, and Cornell guarantees that every student who enrolls who needs financial aid will have their education financed for their entire time there. Financial aid in Cornell is based on packages determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment.
Once your level of financial aid has been determined, the office will first provide student employment to finance your way through college. If student employment as well as self-help such as loans and your own finances are not enough to help you with your college expenses, then scholarships and grants will then be disbursed. This also includes federal grants. To get more information on financial aid in Cornell, you can visit https://finaid.cornell.edu.

Harvard and other Ivy League schools such as Yale, Cornell, Brown, Princeton and a few others give their high dollar scholarships to students who are academic achievers more so than those that are athletic achievers. While you may get some partial funds because you play football (or one of the many other sports) and are talented, you will need to be academically superior as well to get a full scholarship. If you want to go to school on the basis of athletic talents and get a full scholarship because you possess them, you will find that there are many of them to which athletic prowess is very important.

In order to obtain a scholarship at an SEC school such as LSU you have to be pretty talented in the football arena. There is much weight put in the success of the football program at this school making the program extremely competitive. For the 2011 year, LSU has decided to cut 2 scholarships as well as limit recruiting visits as they have been found in violation of recruiting practices.
These self imposed restrictions are an attempt to avoid sanctions by the NCAA. Each year the recruiting class tends to be between 20 and 30 players depending on the number of players graduating. In a school that size that significantly less than 1% of the total students thereby making the program very limited.
Not all of these students receive tuition scholarships, only about 25% of them do. So you can see you need to excel at whatever position you play in order to be granted such a scholarship. Source used: blog.nola.com/lsusports/2009/02/lsu_foot....
