Probably not, with current funding. But solar (in particular) if done large scale, can take away a chunk of oil demand. But not 100%.
I don't - any more than you do. It is a guess or a prediction. Prove me wrong.
It os going to have to - we are running out of oil - that is a simple fact.
We are already starting to - oil production at all fields is dropping, and demand is increasing. Going to a more expensive brand is not going to solve the problem - we need to ween ourselves off oil as much as possible.
You'll see it starting to really impact our economy negatively once gas hits $5 - $6 /gallon. It's already hurting those in the lower socio-economic strata.
All the more reason to develop our own oil sources. Rock 1 month ago .
If we had enough of our own, we wouldn't be importing any. This country can not survive on it own oil supplies for very long at all. Mere months, probably.
We need to use some other form of renewable or at least not non-renewable energy source, or this country, and the world, are doomed.
It may have to, someday; as we deplete supplies to the point we have to use oil for energy or use it for synthetic materials; but not both. And of course, that is why some people are trying to encourage US energy innovation to at least keep pace with other countries, so we do not get through the era where we are dependant on unfriendly countries for our oil energy and find ourselves dependent on other countries for green energy.
I guess it also depends on whether the government is going to continue subsidizing the oil industry or not, as well.
Well, right now, the Chinese government is investing heavily in market domination in solar energy. If other countries don't follow suit; then if dependance on solar becomes necessary, other countries will have the choice of paying whatever the chinese want to charge; or going without. And surely you can't be naive enough to think that the Chinese will just give the technology away to the western world.
FWIW, I consider modern nuclear power (including doing away with the silly ban on reenriching the spent nuclear fuel) to be green.
FWIW, I consider modern nuclear power (including doing away with the silly ban on reenriching the spent nuclear fuel) to be green. I don't think your greenie friends would agree. Rock 29 days ago .
And that's the difference between conservatives and liberals. We're not afraid to step away from party dogma if we think it is poorly though out.
Now if we can just get you to believe in capitalism. Rock 29 days ago .
I've believed in capitalism for years. The evidence of its existence is all around us. Or were you saying you wished you could get me to convert my religion to capitalism?
That won't happen, because the evidence of how badly it can be abused is also all around us.
Yes but only when we have raped the earth so many times that she eventually dies.
I thought your question was about green energy.
I'm responding to your sentence. I don't understand exactly what you mean by rape the earth and I don't understand what you mean by the earth dying. Rock 1 month ago .
It takes a ridiculous amount of equipment to maintain the energy lifestyle we're used to.
Right, and green ain't going to do it ever. eia.gov/energy_in_brief/renewable_energy... Rock 1 month ago cfm.
As technology advances in the future I would like to think so,or at least a good alternative.
Maybe when the cost of fuel is finally to high for the average working joe,or when crude supplies run very low or out.
It doesn't have to be that way. Rock 1 month ago .
They work every day at trying to find a cheap clean green energy source, but as the need for that energy grows then so will the research and technology, the price of fossil fuels is almost out of reach now for the average working Joe,and the crude oil won't last forever. The future is getting closer and closer all the time.
The price of oil would be a lot less if Obama would allow us to go after it. Rock 1 month ago .
They will be cleaning up the gulf for years to come, they didn't even clean up that well after the Alaska disaster and that happened over twenty years ago,I know you would love to drill baby drill, heck you know I'm a trucker imagine how much diesel I go through on my work week, but for future generations we do have to care about the enviroment, lets just make sure ALL the guide lines are met before it's drill baby drill.
Because as you can see, disasters can and do happen.
Rock why do I even bother talking to you,you sure don't read anything anybody says to you,I realize you could care less about the enviroment, but future generations just might, and I didn't say don't drill lets just make sure all the guide lines are met first,of course there are risks maybe just maybe if all guide lines are met we can greatly reduce the RISK.
Sure, becasue we will use less energy and it will be less expensive. But I expect nuclear power to do its part.
The price of oil would be a lot less if Obama would allow us to go after it. 1) US oil drilling is up nearly 60% in the past year, and is the highest its been since records started being kept in 1987. With all that drilling, prices have gone UP, not down.

You can guess anything you like. I've noticed that reality has never stopped you before.
Only if the efficiency dramatically improves and if energy storage costs drop enough to make up for the variability of most "green" energy sources.
This book describes the technology advances required to allow green energy to replace hydrocarbon. Com/Abundance-Future-Better-Than-Think/dp/1451614217.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
