I also wanted to do it because I do have friends who are not on friendly terms with some of my other friends and to prevent collision and questions, I would have gladly hidden some of my friends. However, even if it were possible to hide friends from friends, when a hidden friend posts on your wall or comments on your posts, he or she will be revealed to everybody else.
Anyway, here is what the FAQ of Facebook says on the topic: "How can I hide my Friend List on my profile? First, click the pencil icon in the Friends box on your profile. Then,... First, click the pencil icon in the Friends box on your profile.

An example would be if I wanted to cheat on my boyfriend with someone, and was friends with that person on Facebook also. Can I just hide that one person from my boyfriend, but still have the rest of my friends list be visible to him? I have seen where someones list says they have a certain number of friends, but there are some that are not visible on the list.
It is just an empty space on the list, when scrolling through the friends list. I have seen this question asked before, but the only response I see is how to make your whole list private.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
