Can I install Windows 8/7/Vista onto a 1TB External Hard Drive?

It will work fine with Win7. Look what the specs say :" Works with Windows Vista, Windows XP, or higher . Higher meaning Win7 ;) BTW, as an aside , for the larger drives you're better off with an external USB drive, like this one rather than a "portable" USB drive.

External comes with a separate power brick. The "portable" version only has the USB connection which may be convenient but requires 2 USB ports, because 1 port can't usually support the higher capacity drives.To avoid "popping" the USB ports ,go for the external version, like you did.
