Can I use a 50-100-150 3-Way Bulb in Lamp that calls for 150 only even if 3-Way function doesn't work & only 150 does?

Thanks alot Schelli! I have a bunch of 3-Way bulbs on hand as I have another 3-Way Lamp, but I just purchased a new Lamp from Macy*s during Vets Day Sale & it arrived today & I want to set up & use & don't have a plain 150 Watt available! Musketeer 13 days ago .

I looked at this information after I answered the question and I may be half wrong...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-way_lampWhile your light would probably work, it may only ever use the 100 w filament. Org/wiki/3-way_lamp.

Thanks alot once again Schelli, and as long as I'm not damaging my new lamp, I'm fine until I get to the store & buy the plain 150! As I'm blind as a bat, though, I rteally wanted & need the 150 which is why I really liked this lamp! Musketeer 13 days ago .

You should consider lower energy using 150 watt equiv CFLs - or LEDs.

I know I should and do everywhere else around the house, but I tried 3-Way CFL's for my old lamp, and they were no where near as bright as the old bulbs, and now that I have this new lamp which is right next to where I sit the majority of time and read, I'll put CFL's in the old lamp that I moved by loveseat, but because I have such poor eyes, and the prospects of macular degeneration & cataracts etc. Based on parents/family, I'm scared to scrimp on my lighting! However, are the LED's better I assume than the traditional CFL's, and do you know if I'm correct about the 3-Way CFL's or was it just quality?! I did however try a couple different brands over time and they still were no where near as bright as the old "bad" bulbs!

A standard lamp socket does not work properly with a 3-way bulb.

Oh dear as I've been using it the past day or so! It won't cause an electrical fire or anything will it?! It seems to be working fine even if only operating at 100, though I'm not really sure!

Thanks for warning me but please reply to my concerns so I'll know if I really have to change out or not use as is! Musketeer 12 days ago .

No fire hazard. It just will only light one filament.

The "hottest" LED retrofit lamp I have seen so far is 60W equivalent.

Thanks alot LightWorks! But I'm not sure if you mean 60W equiv is as bright as you can buy so far in LED or just for certain lamps?! And I'm afraid that certain electrical jargon refers to bulbs as lamps?!

Sorry, yes, lamp is jargon for bulb. They now want us to call what you put the bulb in a "luminaire"but to clarify, 60W equivalent is the brightest LED bulb I have seen from my supply house.

Thanks alot LightWorks and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you! ;~} Musketeer 12 days ago .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
