Can I use broadband to make dialup internet connection?

I don't know how to explain since it is complex. I already have broadband internet connection but I don't have dialup modem hardware installed on my pc (and I really don't want to install it, don't ask me why). I want to make dialup connection "by" broadband connection.

Is there any way or softwares where I can make dialup connect with my broadband line connection? Let say I want to use AOL dialup sevice as an example. Thanks a lot Asked by SunKissUAE 58 months ago Similar questions: broadband make dialup internet connection Computers > Internet.

It's possible using VoIP, but certainly not optimal In order to make a dialup connection, you are always going to need a modem and a communication service that provides the modem with a dial tone. If you're talking about using a broadband connection to make dialup connections then you are going to need to use a Voice over Internet Protocol provider such as Vonage to provide you with the dial tone voice service. The one thing you need to remember however is that unlike a traditional analog voice service VoIP works by digitizing and compressing the analog sound signal into digital data packets.

While this is virtually indistinguishable during voice conversations, it can have a devastating effect on the far more complex audio signals used during modem based data transfer. Having said that, it is possible to configure most VoIP providers to allow some level of modem functionality. Basically you will need to set your VoIP service quality to the highest level possible, and configure your modem to work at a far lower baud rate than normal (9600 is often as fast as you'll be able to go.) It really would be far easier to convert across to AOL's free broadband client instead.

Not really... You really need the hardware device to do this. Most dial-up providers DO provide access to your mail and content services from other connection types. Check with your service provider (AOL, or whoever).

You should be able to go aol. Com and sign on - whether you ride your bike or drive your car your destination is the same. Is there a specific service or site you are trying to access?.

Yes and no you can make a "dial-up" connection through broadband by encapsulating the PPP. Modems are on the phone lines. Normally when connecting to AOL through dial-up your computer is dialing through your modem and the phone lines to the modem at AOL.It is important to understand that broadband internet is NOT the same network as the modems are on.

You CANNOT connect to an AOL modem through broadband. You can only connect to a modem by calling it with another modem, period. No exceptions. Modems are analog devices when talking to each other.

Your computer only talkd digital to your braodband connection. However, you can encapsulate the SLIP/PPP (Serial Line Internet Protocol/point to point protocol) used by modems to talk to each other. For example you can create an encrypted SSH tunnel to another server (ostensibly it would be an AOL server if you were trying to connect there) and pipe the PPP through the tunnel creating a "dial-up" connection through a tunnel.

For example you could use the SLIRP software which is an open source emulator for PPP. SLIRP essentially creates a modem in software that listens to a port on the server rather than listening to the phone line as a real modem would do. This allows you to "dial" the port on the server running SLIRP and create a PPP tunnel that then provides you access to the internet through the tunnel and on to the servers access to the internet.

I haved done this in the past and it is very effective. The problem is that either you have to have access to run the software on the server or the owner of the server needs to run it for you. Ways to accomplish this are by getting a shell account from the ISP or using a server at your home or a friends home etc. This is the classic method for penetrating a firewall.

You create the tunnel through one open port and get a complete connection to the network the server on the other side of the tunnel is attached to through the use of PPP and the tunnel.

No. Dialup, by definition, is mutually exclusive from broadband, given that the word dial implies the use of a telephone line, as opposed to broadband cable or DSL. With broadband internet, you don't want or need a 56k modem, or any software for it.

Largely speaking, there is no reason to use a dialup connection if you have a broadband connection to the internet. The one exception would be if you need to connect remotely to a computer that has no internet connection, but is connected to a phone line. This used to be more common 20 years ago, but these days, is very rare.

You can connect to AOL via your broadband connection without dialing in, just use their broadband software.

Broadband and dialup are completely different. There is no way to use dialup on broadband. I wish is was possible.

I switched ISPs to broadband but still had an open dialup account. There was a news service included with the dialup and it would have been great to access it through the broadband. They were completely different companies.

You can't dialup to one company through a different company.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
