Can plugging the Vox Amplug Classic Rock to an acoustic guitar project the same distorted sound?

It might be a problem with the input jack on your guitar but like you said if your guitar isnt a popular brand it could be anything. Be sure its not the pick ups either. Hope this helps you out man.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
