Can someone really die of a broken heart?

Yes Rosie, someone can died from a broken heart. This is a condition that some people experience during a stressful situation such as the lost of a love one called "Broken Heart Syndrome". The condition is rarely fatal but can happen.

The medical term for his condition is called "Stress-induced Cardiomyopathy" or "Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy" as called by Japanese doctors who discovered it in 1991. The symptoms are similar to a heart attack but it is not a heart attack. During stressful time the body sometimes releases hormones that affect the heart in unusual ways.

The hormones causes the heart to become elongated and as a result there is a reduction the in the pumping efficiency of the heart muscles. The condition is treatable and the patient generally makes a full recovery in a few days.

A lot of times, when you are that depressed you don't eat, you don't sleep, and you don't take proper care of yourself. The stress, and the pain of grieving over someone can literally kill you. You can suffer immune deficiency and get very ill, or experience stress related illness that can kill you.

One does get heart broken when one loses someone dear. When someone is heartbroken, one loses the desire to go out and mingle and be happy. This leads to depression and can one lose interest in living and long for death. So, yes, death is certain for anyone who gets a heart ache and does not heal himself out of it...

An emotional pain can cause a physical problem also important, such as a heart attack. So my answer is yes, it is possible.

I think my Grandad died of a broken heart...I cant remember much about it as I was only 9 ,but my Granny died on Jan 5th and Grandad became ill two weeks later and died exactly 4 months later on 5th may. Animals certainly die of broken hearts...My dad died of cancer and his dog died 4 days later after refusing to leave his bedside not eating or drinking either, the vet could find no reason for death and just said she had a broken heart.

Interesting I should find this question... I have always believed in broken hearts...My pop-pop passed away this past Saturday, and tonight, my nana, (his wife), was take to the hospital. They're treating her for difficulty breathing, but it's much more than that...

Thanks, melpor. Awesome answer! When my husband died I might as well been dead myself, because that was how I felt.. dead.

I was hospitalized because of extreme depression.. but I didn't die. I chose to live.. for my children. Have a nice day!Rosie.

I believe you can, depends on how much you allow it to take over your being, mind, life. It sure can drive you in that direction. In situations like couples or people who are married yes!

Just imagine having to go on by yourself after losing the love of your life for the rest of your life. It's like losing half of yourselfVonda G. Nelson.

I believe this is true. My grandmother died and my grandfaughter was so lonely, he dipped into a depression that killed him shortly after.

Yes indeed it's very previlant especially in old couples who married like more than half there lives. They greive alot when there spouse die and shortly after they die to of heart worries, missing their true love. There are people when they break up from relationships they never date again and grieve for the rest of their lives.

A broken heart eats away at you more than a CANCER in your body. It hurts very much.......... but there are ways to get over ITLOVE can make you do some kind of things not even our little brain can find them out.

I would say yes, I know a few people who have died of a broken heart.

Yes, someone could die for it some other people if they can't carry the pain, stress, depression and the pressure they will take their lives for it.

Yes unfortunately so. A broken heart is more worst than any other illness.

Yes, I have heard and read about it, that someone could die because they are broken hearted.

The only way you die from a broken heart is if you are ill with depression. Normally, people suffer and get over the loss of a loved one. That's human nature.

You suffer, you forget, you give yourself another chance to love someone new. Healthy human beings are in constant search for happiness. That's what makes us progress as a species.

I never heard that question, but I think that it is possible, especially men. It is more tuft time for them. Believe me.

I mean, if your heart is broken, that isn't really a reason give up on life altogether is it. When my dad died, my mother was really broken hearted. She'd been 11 when she fell in love, and they were together till he died when she was 59.

But she lived for my sake, because she knew he wouldn't want her to pine and just not take interest in life again. So I think it's really a case of not being strong enough to work through the pain. That said, sometimes it can happen, especially when the person is really old and can't face life alone.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
