Yes! , it all goes down to your own body and what it can can handle, whether the drink was distilled, brewed or fortified, and what the drink was made from, the chemicals involved in the process....etc. Gin, for example, is made from juniper berries, long used as a depressant, other forms of alcohol are an anti-depressant, like tequila and rum is basically just pure sugar. Basically, different people are affected different ways by different alcoholic drinks.
For me personally, I can drink beer or white wine all day and rarely even suffer from a hangover, but hit me with hard liquor, and I'm a dribbling mess that night, and suffer for it the next morning. You just have to learn what you can handle, and it's all trial and error. More.
