Can you have a lovely speaking voice and a lovely singing voice?

Yes I think so. Whomever told you that must not like to think for their self. It sounds like total nonsense to me.

Some people swear they are "tone-deaf" yet they can instantly detect who is calling them on the phone out of millions of different voices they can recognize family or friends from strangers. If you play a scale on the piano and throw in a "sour" note these people can still tell so how are they "tone-deaf'? Not to say everyone can sing in key and do it well.

But you get my point? I can think of examples just off the top of my head. Mississippi john Hurt had a lovely quiet and gentle speaking voice and he is one of my favorite singers.

Ali Farka Touré has a beautiful melodic speaking voice, another one of my favorites. Listen to Lisa Gerrard her voice is lovely singing or talking. I would ask this question: Do you need a "Lovely" voice to be a successful singer?

S manager at the time discouraged Louis Armstrong from singing on stage, Pop's wanted to sing so he did and became more famous for his singing than his Trumpet playing. Bob Dylan has a weird singing voice people still buy his albums. Was Billie Holiday's voice as lovely at the end of her career as it was in her earlier works?((Lady Sings The Blues (1952–1959) By the 1950s, Holiday's drug abuse, drinking, and relationships with abusive men caused her health to deteriorate.

Her later recordings showed the effects on her voice, as it grew coarse and no longer projected the vibrancy it once had. On March 28, 1952, Holiday married Louis McKay, a Mafia enforcer. McKay, like most of the men in her life, was abusive,71 but he did try to get her off drugs.

Holiday's late recordings on Verve constitute about a third of her commercial recorded legacy and are as popular as her earlier work for the Columbia, Commodore and Decca labels. In later years, her voice became more fragile, but it never lost the edge that had always made it so distinctive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtgUbJN8oPE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhVdLd43bDI.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
