I have the misfortune to have family members who are addicts (or were before they died of drug overdoses). Every single case started with a teenager smoking weed and a parent deciding it was no big deal. It is a big deal, especially if he already has mental health issues.
Get him to a shrink. Find out where he got it and turn his dealer in to the cops, because his dealer is responsible for a lot of misery and death. He or she doesn't deserve any sympathy, especially given that they're dealing to kids.
If you love your son, intervene. Get him professional help and make sure he stays clean. Because if you don't, things will get worse.
Many anti-depressants actually do just the opposite. The doctor should have mentioned this. If you have ever seen the commercials for some of them they mention to stop taking the medicine if suicidal thoughts occur.
If your son is smoking weed and it truly does help him with his depression than I would assume that a plant growing from the ground would be better than a pill full of chemicals being dumped into your body. He has straight a's rarely goes out to get into trouble and smokes a little weed? Support him and help with his depression.
Get into activities together like hunting and fishing or any hobby.:).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
