Not likely since HK generates billions of dollars for the Chinese economy as a whole. May as well kill the golden goose and eat it. The HK folk were given a promise by the Communist Chinese, that HK could continue on down it's chosen path to democracy - that is, a form of government involving all parties, points of view and opinions.

They won't. Hong Kong is a very important financial center not only for China, but also for the international community. It's bound to have some side effects on the economy of the city, which will cause protest.
