You need to know what each person likes, and somehow combine them together. For instance, one may like hot sunny places (island type), one may prefer cooler places. You need to find a balance.

Then you can get a list, which you can then choose from based on other considerations like budget, time etc.

Well to start somewhere you both somewhat agree on. But if one likes cold weather and one likes hot then go somewhere with mild weather to compromise. If you are referring to money then I am not sure..

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
