If you think they just end up on earth, how do you deal with St Paul saying in the letter to the Philippians that our citizenship is in heaven. He's not just talking to some elite, but to all the believers in Philippi, and hence logically, any typical believers. Also in the epistle to the Hebrews in chapter 12, that indicates that we are ultimately coming to a heavenly Jerusalem, again that's not just written to an elite; in fact he was writing that letter as some of the believers were wavering under intense pressure from their Jesus-rejecting fellow Jews.
It would certainly seem to be the case that we will be spending some time on earth again, especially if you are thinking of the millenium rule of Christ. But maybe our resurrection bodies will allow us to got to both places.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
