Connecting VGA port on Computer to Composite Audio/Video Inputs on TV?

Connecting VGA port on Computer to Composite Audio/Video Inputs on TV I have a Sony Vaio laptop computer with a VGA monitor output jack and a headphone output jack. I would like to output the computer’s video & audio to a TV set which has 2 RCA jacks for audio, 1 RCA jack for video, as well as an S-Video input jack. Is it possible to do that and what connector cables to I need?

You need more than a cable. There isn’t a cable that can do what you need to do. Your laptop’s video output is in a different color space than the input expected by the TV’s video jack.

The laptop is in RGB color space, but the video input on the TV is in the YUV color space. You need an active transcoder to convert one to the other, and these can be expensive. You can probably find adapter cables that claim to do the job, like this one ( amazon.com/EFORCITY-VGA-S-Video-RCA-Adap... ), but if you look closer the reviews claim it doesn’t work and gives a distorted picture.

Here’s why:1. The color space is different.2. The only acceptable resolution on a composite or svideo input is 480i, and without special software a laptop cannot output an interlaced resolution from its VGA port.

The only way to do it is to use a transcoder. Your transcoder may or may not do resolution scaling for you. This one (nextag.com/ATLONA-VGA-PC-TO-540101995/pr...) does scaling, but it’s $250.

You may find a passive transcoder that doesn't scale the resolution, and in that case you'd need software like Powerstrip (entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm) to configure and use a custom interlaced resolution for the laptop to use. So after all that, I think the following $75 unit will probably fit the bill for what you want to do. I don't know if $75 is too rich for this particular project, but it certainly beats $250.

I'd look at the reviews before jumping into anything though. TeeSeeJay's Recommendations Kworld Pc To Tv Converter 1600 Watch Or Play Pc Game On Your Tv Amazon List Price: $69.99 Used from: $73.88 Average Customer Rating: 2.0 out of 5 (based on 3 reviews) .

Used to be common for video presentations -- seem less so now. A few years back it seemed that there were a lot of these devices similar to what you're looking for as a way of going from a laptop to a television set for presentations. I haven't actually seem one in a while.

Might be something you can pickup used on eBay. For current new devices, this seems to be one that's still available: VGA signal converter to TV's composite --> cablesnmor.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEW... The old ones were pretty bad on the resolution supported. This one supports 1024x768 and has some other decent features.

For the audio, you can use a simple 3.5 mm stereo mini-phono jack to RCA, which is commonly available everywhere. They even have them on Amazon I believe. Hope that helps!

** Note, there are lots of devices that will allow you to use the USB for outputting video to a composite output, like for editing and making home movies. Those are pretty inexpensive anymore. They don't however normally support just outputting monitor video to composite -- so don't get confused between the two.

No, TV compatible signals are not output via the VGA interface with just different cables You will need to get a converter box. S-video and composite are much lower resolution than VGA, and small text is generally not legible,so you will only want to use this for video or graphics, not as a monitor replacement. You can get them from DataPro or GrandTec or Startech There are many other sources on the web too.

You really need a try with a VGA input I did a quick search and could not find any cheap VGA to RCA or S-Video cables. However, I did not look hard because even if you find one the picture is going to be horrible. You really need a TV that either has a VGA input and a HD 3 prong input that you could hook up with your laptop using this: cablesnmor.com/vga-rca-cable.html None flat screen (LCD or Plasma) TVs do not have the resolution capability to display what you see on your laptop becuase what you are seeing is very high resolution, detailed imagery.

A TV with only those inputs would have to be the standard black, clunky TV that we all grew up with before LCD and Plasma TVs started coming out. Those type of TVs just cannot handle what you are asking to be done with any level of acceptable image reproduction.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
