I would certainly consider using an open facebook alternative but getting your friends to embrace a new platform may be difficult. Right now I have very few people that are even willing to use Google Buzz (based on google wave). It's also a pain to move you friend lists over to new social networks.
If they had a way to import friend lists and photos and whatnot it might be a really great service to use.
In reality no one is switching anywhere. Facebook has half a billion users, and years of your use history. Will other social networks arise.
Of course they will. But Facebook it king and is likely to stay king for a long time to come. They've interwoven themselves so deeply into the fabric of the web and our lives that I can't imagine Diaspora or any other alternative will be a viable competitor.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
