I don't think Lloyd George would have showered any praise on Hitler if he knew what would happen during the Second World War. Lloyd George believed Hitler was rearming for defensive purposes only and considered him to be the 'George Washington' of Germany. In addition to this, Lloyd George was instrumental in getting Neville Chamberlain removed from office - change many people would consider to be of huge significance in winning the war.
Edit - 'why did he feel compelled to publish the article in one of the national newspapers for Great Britain? What made him think that the ordinary British people would even be remotely interested in a foreign country?' Because the British ARE interested in foreign countries, isn't the fact that were are still talking about Hitler in 2012 proof of that? Listen, I'm not saying Lloyd George was faultless, but it is very easy in hindsight to rip him to pieces isn't it?
It was far less easy for him to judge Hitler's intentions accurately at the time. I'm not saying Lloyd George didn't get it wrong, I just don't think it's right to portray a man who championed the welfare state as a fascist who couldn't wait for Hitler to invade the British Isles. Edit - what about that quote says David Lloyd George wanted the Nazis to invade Britain and would have been handed a prestigious position if they had?
So he admired Hitler as a leader, probably because Hitler was an effective speaker and generally a powerful leader, that still isn't any proof that he'd have been handed any sort of power had Operation Sea Lion been a success. Again I will refer you to hindsight - in hindsight it's easy to be critical of people who were impressed by Hitler's abilities as a leader, at the time the issue was far less black and white.
He died of cancer on 26 March 1945, aged 82 after some years of hypochondria and withdrawal from political life. Hitler would probably not have given him any post.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
