Died my hair lightest ash blonde, and yesterday put toner in it to tone down the brass roots. Now my hair is grey. Help?
My natural color is dirty blonde. I've been highlighting my hair for years, and decided to try it myself at home by applying all over color. While it matched my highlights well, my roots turned brassy orange. So I went to Sally's to buy some toner.
The lady helped me pick it out. It was 311D. She told me to apply it the same way I did my color, and I started with my roots then the rest of my head, and now my brassy roots are a toned down version of brassy/blond, and the blonde part of my hair is now grey-ish violet.
Can anyone help? I know this is all bad for my hair. I applied a conditioner on my hair after the toner application, as the lady at Sally's suggested.
Is there anything I can do? Asked by LShell 27 months ago Similar questions: Died hair lightest ash blonde yesterday put toner tone brass roots grey help Lifestyle > Beauty.

I think you need to go to a professional so that you don't do any damage to your hair. Due to the expense of getting highlights (and their upkeep), I have not had my hair highlighted since I was a teenager. My natural hair color is very dark brown-black; for the past few years, I have been using Revlon's Colorsilk in Medium Golden Brown as it would turn my hair a gorgeous, subtle cherry brown when first dyed and then fade to a golden red.
I thought perhaps it would be nice to have a little change but I was not about to drop $250 at a salon. So after spending 30 minutes at the local CVS deciding on a shade, I opted for the Chocolate Macaroon, since it was labeled 5.3 Medium Golden Brown (just like the Colorsilk shade). I figured the two colors would be similar, as I didn't want anything drastic, but that the highlights would give some dimension and brighten up the color I already loved. As a lot of the other reviewers have said, the base color is A LOT DARKER than what is depicted on the box and what you would expect.
I was quite shocked after step 1 of the process: my hair looked to be in the same color family as when I would apply the Colorsilk Medium Golden Brown but - well, A LOT DARKER. It didn't look bad but it was not what I was expecting. Oh, well, I thought.
Let's give this a try - there's no turning back! I enlisted the help of my dear husband to apply the highlights, as I highly doubted the success of the end results if I were to do them alone. In the years past when I had my hair highlighted by professionals, I had made a mental note of certain techniques they used, tools, etc. I remember they always used a brush (I bought mine at the dollar store); they always used foil (I cut ~40 strips of Reynolds foil long enough for my hair); and one particular colorist used a piece of cardboard the same length as the foils as a platform so she would have better control when applying the highlights to my hair (my hubby located an old cardboard box in the closet and cut out an appropriate piece). Now, let me emphasize that my husband had no prior experience coloring anyone's hair (although he is very artistic in other mediums).
He was extremely worried that he would ruin my hair. I reassured him that he would be fine, gave him some vague directions (vary the thickness of the hair, put some more over there, etc) and hoped for the best. He was so cautious, took a long time to make sure the placement was okay, all the while sporting the most pensive look on his face I've ever seen... and at one point we both kind of freaked because the first piece he'd applied had been sitting on my hair for past the recommended 25 minutes for a bold look.
When I first took off the piece of foil on that first strand, I inwardly panicked. It looked bleached blonde... not what I was going for... and as I washed the bleach off this strand I watched in amazement as it was not, in fact, blonde, but a golden red... I was elated! And so it went.
For 4 hours. Applying here and there, washing off the dye on a previous strand... until we were all done and then I actually went into the shower and washed and conditioned my hair. (The conditioner that comes with the kit is absolutely wonderful, by the way.
L'Oreal should totally come out with a regular conditioner just like it. )When it was all over and done with, I could not believe the results. My hair looked amazing... like I'd gone to the salon and spent $$$.
Also, my hair was so soft and shiny - not the way it normally looks and feels after I color it. What was most surprising was that as shockingly dark as the base color seemed, the end result was pretty much what was depicted on the box for my starting hair color. Even my husband couldn't believe his handiwork and looked very happy and proud of himself. As he should be.
I told him he was in trouble now - he'd have to do it all over in about 2-3 months! :) (Now that he has an idea of what to do, I doubt it will take as long next time for the highlighting process). So to recap, this can be an awesome product with a little bit of preparation, the proper tools, and, of course, some luck.
I can see why many people hate this product. I'm sure if I followed the directions on applying the highlights that comes with the kit, my hair would not have turned out the way it did. However, if you have the right tools (they don't have to be expensive) and someone who won't mind doing the highlights for you, then you may be in for a treat.
At $30 per session (I had to buy 2 boxes because for my long hair, there wasn't enough to do the highlights with just 1), the results are a steal! And although my poor hubby had to spend 4 agonizing hours wondering if his wife would kill him at the end of it all, this story has a happy ending. For both of us!

TRUE BAD HAIR DAY TALES Jim, I think men like you with the slick, smooth, bald scalp are very attractive. I enjoyed reading what you wrote. We are not our hair.
PamA "Bald" Hair Day TaleIt was not exactly a bad hair day, it was more a long hair to bald, by waxing my scalp smooth, day. All I can tell you is that having a completely, REALLY smooth skin bald scalp is unique, especially when you go from having a full head of longish hair to slick bald scalp within two hours or so. Suddenly, whenever you see a woman with long thick hair you are reminded that all you can do is decide whether you want a glossy or matte finish on your smooth and shadowless scalp.By the way, I was bald for weeks and weeks.
The best upside, since I now had a cueball head, was suddenly I was attracting women who were skin bald as well, either by choice or because they had slick scalp alopecia universalis. They really liked being with a man who was as slick and bald as they were. Their constant consideration was that most women have beautiful long hair while their scalps could not be made any smoother or balder.
I loved being really bald, but I really loved being with really bald women. If you wax you scalp continuously you WILL finally become permanently bald, I guarantee that, and only within at most two years. Then you will be able to get rid of any combs and replace them with wax to buff up the scalp to a wet looking, glossy finish.
Besides the slick look, the slick feel is terrific. When woman would rub her hand across my super smooth head ti would tend to slip off because it was so unbelievable smooth. I have waxed four times and I think the hair is starting to fail; I think I am on my way to being real and permanently bald.
, with only the occasional stray vellus hair that can easlity be plucked out. Jim Sources: home.att.net/~ncane/Haircare.html .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
