Do family-owned businesses in Colorado need Worker's Comp for family members?

According to Entrepreneur magazine's "Ultimate Guide to Worker's Compensation Insurance," Colorado requires Comp for ALL employers with 1 or more employees. I would add that some of the worst battles can unfortunately come from family members, and that these are the people you should want to protect more than anyone. Even if you don't think your family would ever make a claim against you, consider how a serious injury might affect their finances and their future health insurability.

Further, lack of Comp insurance does not mean you're not liable - it only means you've waived your best defense against a lawsuit, and have decided to cover the cost of any claims yourself - possibly driving the cost of your firm's health insurance, if you provide it, way up as well.
