Do unpaid items on your credit report really fall off after 7 years?

Do unpaid items on your credit report really fall off after 7 years I have a few minor reports on my credit that I REFUSE to pay because I didn't sign up for 4yr GYM membership, it was only supposed to be 2yrs. The original amount placed on my credit report was $450, now a few hundred has been added on. Will this be removed after 7yrs?

Yes and No From what I gather, Yes if you leave it undisturbed it will go away, but if you lets say in 2005 you didn't know what it was and you called to get information on that item, and found out what it was, technically you have reactivated it and then the 7 years start over... it's very tricky... but if you just leave it be and never call and ask about it, and don't do anything after 7 years yes it will go away, or if they don't you can call the credit bureaus and have then remove the item. When you look at your credit report it will tell you last time the item was active.

1 While the Credit Agency's, and the Law state so: DO NOT EXPECT IT TO HAPPEN without due diligence on your part and a concentrated effort to correct at the time. Personally speaking Every American should be up in arms over WHAT IS BEING COLECTED ABOUT THEM, AND SHARED to anyone willing to spend a dollar for the information. Those agencys are not regulated with any firm controls what-so-ever.......Congress should BAN THEM AND CLOSE THEM DOWN>>>mY OPINION!

Did you know? President Clinton on a Walk stopped by a bookstore...tried to buy a book, and HIS Card was rejected based on an item in HIS Credit FILE? Fact!

It did occur!Blessings..........Annlee .

If a challenge fails, you needed/need to bring the gym to small claims court, produce the contract, prove its an unfair charge and then have the judges verdict sent to all credit reporting agencies and get rid of it. It used to be 7 years. I'm not sure how long these things stay on nowadays but I remember reading that its much longer.

I regularly get copies of my credit reports and separate copies of my spouse's credit reports and review them for errors. I act immediately if there are any inconsistencies.

When you see things like this you challenge them. I've had erroneous charges removed from my credit reports. It took work and time and a lot of phone calls and even letters sent certified mail but I got it done.

3 Maybe. Maybe not. In this day and age, most debts like this get sold, for pennies on the dollar, to a collection agency.

That action starts the whole "seven year" timeframe all over again. It is very possible that this will occur with your unpaid debt, and you will not only have it on your credit history forever, you will be hounded by the colllection agency until you pay it. If you don't pay it in this 7 year period, they will sell the debt to someone else, and that starts it all over again. My suggestion is to call the orginal debt owner and se eif you can work something out - payments, or a reduced balance.

Trust me, in the long run, it will be a lot cheaper and easier to deal with this now.

4 One thing you might like to read and learn MORE ABOUT:Look up the Statute of Limitations for YOUR STATE.....Mine is Kansas and Kansas has 3 years. Do not ever be fooled about the Statutes: The last DATE YOU ACTUALLY USED upon an item ( and or payed even one penny on an item) is and becomes the DATE OF STATUTE start..Stop date depends on your State. Like Minnesota is 6 years as compared to Kansas.

Remembering that if the creditor by making a tag on your credit record thinks that extends the start date...THEY ARE TOTALLY WRONG. Remember that key! If then an item on your report is PAST YOUR STATE Statute of Limitations.......Write the Credit Bureau that the Statute of Limitations has attached for your State and remove the item....also write the any collector trying to collect on it:And, if a collector is trying as Turbo suggest and Turbo is right on: Do not make any deaal to pay...and do not pay anything unless you are willing to pay it off in full...or the TIME RESTARTS.

If Buffet knew, five years ago, that credit default swaps were "financial weapons of mass destruction," how can Paulson.

Credit is financial quicksand for most Americans.

How do I get a collection debt removed from credit report after 7 years from 1st date of delinquency.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
