Do you agree that medication cannot cure depression and anxiety?

While I think medication can lessen the effects of depression and anxiety, I think pharmaceuticals are mere bandages to a deeper root and meds do not "cure" any mental disorder.

I believe mental disorders are primarily physiological and/or spiritual. I say this as someone who has suffered depression (and recovered) as well as having family members who have conquered bipolar disorder through physiological/spiritual method.

Medication is not the cure, but in many many cases it is part of the soution. If you tell someone with a very serious case of clinical depression. Bipolar, schizophrenia or some other mental illness (notice I use the term illness) they just may committ suicide.

Not because they are sinful, although suicide is obviously a sin, But the biochemical malfunction in the brain suddenly going without medication or any other treatment, can put someone so desperate to stop the pain, that they do themselves in because they don't see any hope. God did not remove the pain or the deprssion so they feel even worse that they have failed spiritually and wonder if God is mad at them or stopped loving them. People with mental illness don't think right, see right, or behave right.

Not because they have a spiritual deficit, but because their brain disorder symptoms manifest in those areas. So people who don't understand mental illness think it's just the persons failure to trust God and obey him.

If you are a Christian man, a pastor or other church leader, and you tell someone to go off their medication because God is their all in all, you will answer to God when the person ends up in the hospital or suicidal. Mental illness is an ILLNESS.

Some people with depression are not depressed because of a life long battle with clinical depression and may be able to get through it without medication, or be on it for a short time. But you Apostle Jack are not the one to make that judgement.

Mental illness does affect people spiritually, but that is not the cause. There is a saying out in the world, and sometimes in the church that says. "Why do Christians shoot their wounded?"

If you shame someone for taking medication you are not loving that person, you are tearing them down. They need your love and support, and your prayers. Certainly God is our all in all.

But people get sick. If they get sick and take medication it does not mean they are not a person of faith. Christian music, prayer, bible, all those are helpful.

But not the cure in serious biological cases. There needs to be a holistic treatmen. Medication, spiritual help, and therapy are all apart of the solution.

Medication can only take you so far the rest is up to you.

I believe that when the cause of depression is an imbalance in the serotonin level in the brain, drugs like zoloft and paxil work very well without therapy.

Since I suffer from both, I can say from my experience, that medication helps, but I don't think it cures it. If anything, it helps take the edge off.

God helps me in a big way, and praying and meditating daily helps dramatically. I pray all during times during the day, and I also listen to our local Christian radio station when I'm going to and from work. I listen to my Christian CDs when I need some positive vibes on a really bad day.

If I didn't have these things in my life, I know I would be in trouble since the medications don't heal like my God does.

100% agree with breathe2travel, medication can only do so much for a person.

I wrote a blog post about anxiety and depression. I said medications serve a purpose for they allow us to go about our activities with emotions protected from further harm and are comforting. Much like a bandage on a wound.

The bandage doesn't heal the wound. Our bodies defenses do that. So I prescribe meds to help a patient cope and allow the psychologist to find out what is wrong through therapy.

A lot of people have a lack of serotonium in their brains and some anti depressents can help boost this, So yes I think that it does help but then of course you need to talk about your problems and fear and the reasons you are depressed either with a doctor or a group that specializes in this type of thing, because you will then realise that your not the only one out there with this type of problem, and you will learn how to overcome it and become a happy more positive person.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
