Similar questions: Muslims America follow Law Sharia.
No I don't I don't think they follow the Law of Sharia any more than Christians and Catholics follow the 10 Commandments or any other faith follows their laws. It is like good intentions without any authoratative jurisdiction over the people. I don't really believe that religious laws work in society.
They only work IF & WHEN people choose to follow them. That is the key to me, the choice. There are no consequeces if these laws aren't followed so what is the motivating force to keep them in line?
There isn't any.
No No. I imagine that something like Sharia might be in use in some small, isolated, all-Muslim communities, but in the USA, we have a system in place, and everybody uses it. It is true that large numbers of some minority groups do not like involving police in their disputes due to a bad history with them (or illegal status or cultural differences or other factors), but that certainly doesn't mean that most people have an entirely different set of laws and judges.
Just as some U.S. Jews try to live a life in accordance with Talmudic law, some Muslims try to live a life in accordance with Sharia law. Just as many Jews keep kosher, many Muslims follow halal. However, both groups recognize that, as they are in America, those laws can merely act as a guideline of how to live one's life, and neither expects a court to recognize them.So while they might personally obey these rules, they understand that they're not "laws" in the legal sense, no more so then the ten commandments are laws in a legal sense.
I've never met a Jew or a Muslim that put Tamudic law or Sharia law over U.S.Law, although I could certainly imagine it happening in some extreme cases. Nonetheless, I don't think we have to worry too much about it.No Sharia court has real jurisdiction, and any ruling or punishment one might issue could easily be corrected by a legal court. Is there something specific about Sharia law that's concerning you?
.
No. I know a number of Muslim business people professisonally and socially and while they follow the main tenets of Islam--the Ramadan fast, charity,etc--they don't follow all the picky points of Sharia. Sources: Life .
Let us look at what the Sharia is in the first place. If you know what the Sharia is you wouldn't need to answer the rest of the question with much difficulty. The Sharia, also known as Islamic law, term means "way" or "path"; it is the legal framework within which the public and some private aspects of life are regulated for those living in a legal system based on muslim principles of jurisprudence.
The topics that the sharia covers are broad and can include all aspects of day-to-day life, including politics, economics, banking, business law, contract law, family, sexuality, hygiene, and social issues. These laws are all drived from the Qu'ran (holy book of Islam), Hadiths (sayings of prophet Mohammed Peace be Upon m) also refered to as the Sunnah of the prophet. Wikipedia offers more reading on this but to provide an idea of how the break down of these laws go it is as follows: Sharia law is divided into two main sections: The acts of worship, or al-ibadat, these include: (these are practices every where in the world).
Ritual Purification (Wudu) Prayers (Salah) Fasts (Sawm and Ramadan) Charities (Zakat) Pilgrimage to Macca(Hajj) Human interaction, or al-mu'amalat, which includes: (These can be practiced to some extent in the united states without difficulty but are practiced with much more ease in Islamic countries) Financial transactions Endowments Laws of inheritance Marriage, divorce, and child care Foods and drinks (including ritual slaughtering and hunting) Penal punishments Warfare and peace Judicial matters (including witnesses and forms of evidence) ForeverMM's Recommendations Islamic Law: The Sharia from Muhammad's Time to the Present Amazon List Price: $35.00 Used from: $34.30 .
I believe they want to .... I imagine it is probably hard to carry out here because our laws are so very different Yet, this survey in Detroit indicates that Muslims prefer Sharia law to democracy - jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/0014... Obviously there are differing levels of commitment to this among Muslims, but I believe the 80+% that say they would prefer Sharia law to democracy in Muslim countries would still translate to a majority here.
