My guess is that, when the mayan's made their calendar, they weren't predicting that the world would end in 2012, but rather, it was one of those situations were it was so far in the future that there was really no point in making it go longer than that. Kind of like how the first computers weren't designed to tick over to the year 2000 and thus we had the whole Y2K thing. No calendar can map out infinity, so they all inevitably end. It's not a prediction of the end of the world, it just means it is finally out dated.

Kudos to them for making one that could last this long, but the world is not going to end in 2012. I suspect, when the world does end, it will be very sudden and it won't match up with any pre-existing Armageddon predictions.

I think that the doomsday aspect is not what the Mayans had in mind. I have done a lot of reading for many years about 12-21-2012.

As the Mayans used the planetary cycles to create their calendar, I looked to another planetary cycle system, western astrology, and created a chart for the date.

It is very interesting to say the least. Wether or not one believes in astrology, the symbolic message and energy seen in the chart coincides with other non-doomsday theories about 12-21-12. Humanity is to face a major change.

There is another 'end' that the Mayans speak of and we have passed that mark and what that mark represented is defiantly seen in society today. We spent last year and part of this year in an era of 'ethics'. What happened over these months was wikileaks, exposure of money hungry people/institutions, and much more.It was right at the transition between the era of 'ethics' and the new era of 'co-creation' that the Occupy movement was born.

These things that have occurred are a build up to 12-21-12. In the astrological chart for the date, the placement of planets strongly point to a change in governments, a new manner of society. Out with the old and in with the new is a perfect nutshell description.

In the chart there is a very rare arrangement of planets called a 'Yod' which is also known as 'the finger of god'. This arrangement supports the energy of change and a force to be respected.

From a natural standpoint, looking at universal/cosmic cycles, the end date of the calendar is also when we, our solar system, returns to a place that is known as the cosmic tree within the Milky Way. Many many cultures of old have a sacred tree and most of those are connected to the cosmos in some way. This cosmic tree spot is the start and end of a cycle that runs approximately 25,000 years.

This is backed up by science. Just as the moon has a 28 day cycle circling the earth and the earth has a 365 day cycle around the sun, our solar system circles around in space.

Ultimately it is just a cycle and like all calendars, it starts over again. However, I do hope that the predictive talents of the Mayan continue and that 2012 is an 'end of the world as we perceive it' and humanity evolves into a more peaceful and respectful species.

No one can predict when the world is going to end as it is in god's hands. Mayan's calender is just an assumption and cannot be had as an authentic one.

No. Lots of people have predicted the world would end before 2011. In the case of the Mayans they did not even make a prediction.

They made a calendar that had to end sometime. If it was a prediction they probably would have done something to indicate it was the end of the world. I do not believe it was a prediction and even if it was I do not believe the world will end in 2012.

No. And I wrote a hub that explains why the Mayan Calendar doesn't end in 2012.

I believe as others have said here that it ends in 2012 only because, to them, that was way far into the future.

I am not worried that life as we know it will end on 12/21/2012. If it does, then so be it.

Today, in a years time will be the day after...that's an erie thought for those who believe it is a doomsday philosophy. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Better enjoy each day as a gift, that's why it's called the present. :).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
