We are the only ones on my block that does not have lawn service. My husband says he likes to do it himself but I think he is just cheap! :) Asked by LouLou 45 months ago Similar questions: lawn service Home > Patio, Lawn & Garden.

A little bit of both... We live in a PUD (Planned-Unit Development, sort of like a condo, but the houses are free-standing). Our front yards are maintained for us, but we have to do the side and the back. I love to garden and happily tend my own areas, but I'm better with the plants and flowers than the lawn.

I can't seem to get it right. Our grass just never has that super-cared-for look. But the flowers look great!

My husband hates all types of gardening, but--I think it's a holdover from his childhood--he always thinks he should mow the lawn, even though he hates it and I kind of like it. It seems a bit silly to me, but I appreciate the sentiment! The guys that do the front yards call themselves "gardners," but they're not.

They do the bare minimum, mostly cutting the lawn. I trim the bushes and pick up the debris that falls from the trees and stuff because I can't stand the way it looks and I hate waiting until they get around to it. And I know this is really stupid, but I can't bring myself to complain about it because they've been around for years and I like them and don't want to get them in trouble!.

Taking care of your own lawn just shows good sense I have never paid someone else to do my lawn and garden chores. Seems we all neglect to get enough exercise in our daily routines. What better thing is there to do than work around the house and yard.

Times when I was unable to keep up--out of town or laid up temporarily, my wife would fill in. Walking behind a mower, bending, lifting, raking, and basic movement are all part of an excellent plan to keep your parts working. Just think, if you do your own yard work, you not only get some of the exercise you need, you can cancel your membership at the health club that you never use.

Two big ways to save money. One additional suggestion. Turn part of your yard into a vegetable garden and grow some of your food.

These are things that make a lot of sense in every way. After all, if you don't do these things, someone might accuse you of having more money than brains. Your husband is doing the right thing--get out and help him.

Please be sure you show this answer to him.

My son is our lawn service. And my husband is cheap. Haha!

Not really. My son calls it "his" lawn now since he fertilizes it and mows and trims. Fine with me.

I used to mow the lawn - didn’t really like it as we have a pretty big yard and at that time had a push mower. Now we have a riding lawnmower and it’s a cinch to do! And my son still complains!

I had to mow the lawn when I was growing up and I didn’t get paid. He gets paid. But why not?

If we had to pay a service, it would be a lot more $$. With all the snow we had this winter, the plows tore up the lawn edges, so we'll see if "Mr. Lawnboy" wants to fix it all up and still call it his own. No lawn service for me... I would say my neighborhood is like 50/50 as to lawn service or no lawn service. Personally I do like to do it myself but then again I have to admit I don't think I would miss it all that much if someone did it for me. Probably I am just cheap...but I always have a hard time parting with money for something I can just as easily do myself.

Just have too many other things to spend money on...like I would really like a sprinkler system...I think I hate watering my lawn more than mowing it...

I do my own lawn...and there are only 2 of us on our block... ...and what pray tell is wrong with cheap?... By the way, "cheap" would be making you do the lawn. :) The fact that he does it means that the mindless mowing probably relaxes him as it does me; and, his family priorities are elsewhere...children's college education, family vacations, his lovely wife's wardrobe...NOT...a new sportscar, poker night with the boys, another family theater gadget, power tools... :) .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
