Two nephews They are both very sure that we are "fighting the good fight" there after 2 tours each. They are both home now and safe but expect to go back.

Yes My brother just came back from Iraq. He is now retired. Started out in the Air Force as a B-52 bomber mechanic, and worked his way up in rank to Captain - he was one of the fastest promoted non-comms.In recent history (80s to present).

S view of Iraq is that the U.S. public really does not understand or know what is going on there, and what the military is doing there. That the press is not presenting a true picture of the situation. He was also required to spend time on the DMZ in Korea, as an officer, before being allowed to retire.

It was an experience he did not enjoy...

My son-in-law will be deployed to Afghanistan in January He did 3 years of active duty before going to college in the mid-90's (peacetime). After discharge he joined the reserves and went on to finish college and a master's degree. Then he volunteered to be reactivated (not sure that is the correct term) and completed officer training.

He is now a civilian employee of the Army Corps of Engineers and captain in the regular Army reserves. S unit is being deployed on January 20, 2008. It is his first deployment to Afghanistan.

He was deployed with the Corps of Engineers to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. My son-in-law embodies the word "service. " He is proud of all his missions and, except for the time away from home and family, is looking forward to his upcoming deployment.

He will be working on a training mission to teach and mentor Afghanis on building and upgrading their infrastructure (primarily roads and bridges). He follows in the footsteps of his father (Vietnam) and grandfather (WWII) and is proud to serve. We couldn't be more proud of him.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
