Do you see your life more affected by a modern or post-modern philosophy?

Similar questions: life affected modern post modern philosophy.

Modernism, thanks to Kant. This is a fabulous question....I wish I had more time to go into my thoughts on the subject, but I've got a limited amount of free time at the moment, so I'll try to write something coherent rather long and rambling (although I could be accused of being too long and rambling at the best of times, so this may not show). I believe that Kant is regarded as being a Modernist and I think his crude and clumsy conception of morality via the categorical imperative as a defining moment in philosophy. It is, I think, the point at which I am able to understand a justification for moral behaviour without any appeal to any external agency (particularly gods and religion which were pretty much the hallmark of all earlier conceptions in my limited knowledge).

It is this work which perhaps, more than any other philosophy, has actually influenced my life. I'm a great fan of Camus and have read much of his work, but I don't know that it has directly influenced my life in the same way, I certainly would consider myself an existentialist and there would appear to be some element missing from such a philosophy. Of course, postmodernism is such a diffuse and ill-defined concept in many ways, and indeed one which is far from being complete in any sense, that I suppose there could very well be areas of it which directly or indirectly affect my life a great deal or which would appeal to me greatly should I ever encounter them.

That's a risk I'll have to take....I look forward to seeing the other answers to this question -- and perhaps you could fill your own opinions in on the discussion board? Sources: Just me...

1 Thanks for your answer. I'm still not sure which has affected my life more. I'm modern in some ways and post-modern in others.

2 It's an interesting question, but not one which is easy to give an answer to for non-experts like me. I was hoping there might be an interesting debate arising from this question, but it would seem no to have attracted much interest for one reason or another.

3 I'm disappointed too. I thought the interest would be limited, but there are some who I thought could and would like to answer this question. I do thank you for your interest.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
