Do you sometimes feel that we are just another animal? What makes us more enlightened than other animals?

We can kill efficiently, hate beautifully, and extend our power over others with ease. What an animal we are! I'm a bit of an animal!

It is the height of hubris to think we are anything but animals This is the problem with the human tendency towards anthropocentrism. We put ourselves at the center of the universe and then we start thinking we can use the rest of the world as we see fit. And because we do this, we then start to think we are different from other animals.

Unfortunately, we really aren't. We might be smarter or more capable, or more destructive, but we do nothing that other creatures haven't done in the past, or won't do again in the future, after we've departed the scene. We're merely products of an evolutionary process.

We are driven to survive and pass on our genes. If we weren't we'd die out. So that's what we do.

Culture confuses things a bit. But we are definitely not any more enlightened. We are driven by forces we don't understand, to do things we have no clear motive for, and the only way to conceptualize it, I think, is to realize that these natural forces that impact the world around us, also impact us, and in ways we do not yet understand. As such, we are not above nature.

We are nature. We are natural. Human processes are natural processes.

This doesn't mean we know what's best for our own future. Natural processes contain destructive processes, too. There have been malthusian events that happened to other cultures and other animals, and they could well happen to humanity, as a whole.

In other words: we could wipe ourselves out, by destroying our own environment, and the earth wouldn't care, because the earth is not a person, and can't care. Only we care about ourselves. So far as I can tell, we show precious little evidence of being able to protect our own long term future any better than any other animal. Still, being human, I have hope that we can.

Still, we have a human nature, that is quite as animalistic as any other animal's nature. We will never, I believe, overcome that nature. The best we can do is learn to work with it, and perhaps harness it for our own betterment.

Good question. I have heard people say that the only thing that separates humans from animals is our tendency towards self examination and reflection. I have also heard that animals are not self aware but I don't know that that is true.

If you really think about it we probably are animals. What makes us better then them? Although, a large part of me says that this conversation proves that we are not animals.

I don't think they talk about this kind of thing amongst themselves. Another question to wrap your mind around would be, is there something wrong with being an animal? Do we feel like we are entitled to things because we believe we are not?

I wonder if animals have rational thought processes or if they are primarily instinctual. Very interesting. Very good question..

We have the capacity to recognize our consciousness We are different because we have the ability to stand aside from our thinking. What I mean is, we can observe our thoughts whereas in the animal realm it is just existence and reaction to the outer world with no conscious awareness of "who" is doing the thinking. It can be compared to fish swimming around in the water, they just swim about with no awareness of the attributes of the world above them.An animal can be standing in the rain and reacting to the cold and wetness around him but he is unable to realize who is doing the thinking, which is the conscious "I" of self-awareness.

(example, courtesy of Paul Brunton's books) Of course, there are some people who haven't yet attained that level of recognizing who is the thinker of their thoughts, but that will come eventually. That is mankind's uniqueness. The point is that human beings have the inborn capacity of becoming "aware", consciously aware of their ability to use a universal energy (or power) when they have learned to work with IT, and this sets them in a different category because of their innate capacity for creative will and "These things I do, greater things shall ye do if you will but understand.

" (paraphrased) Quite frankly, mankind needs to come out of the restricted limitations of the self that is identified as the body, to recognize a greater Self, and understand the laws which govern the spiritual and mental world. There is nothing supernatural about any of this once it is understood. It is for us to awaken to the greater forces surrounding us and learn to work with them in assisting to elevate mankind.

The Master said, "What I see the Father do (i.e. , Universal Intelligence), I do likewise" and He was able to utilize this everpresent force in his healing work.

No, it doesn't cross my mind. I know that I was made in God's image and not that of an animal, although I know of many that act like animals. The Bible has all the truth you will ever need to live by in this broken world and animals have nothing to do with that.

They don't know where their next meal is coming from until they reach it, but humans didn't put it there for them, so the only way it could have gotten there, is God. Not any evolution theory could be that intelligent to perform such miracles and the life that lives on this beautiful earth. " "Animal psychology (behavior)?1. Explain how the circadian, navigational, and orientational mechanisms are inherently i" "If you could shapeshift into animals, what animal would you most likely shapeshife into first? Why?

Are we any more enlightened than those who.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
